 | Dear ,     "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you." John 15: 18-19 (NIV)
Have you tried to change the world?   New Christians often set off with a zeal for change that quickly turns to discouragement as they realize the world is not receptive to the message.   They start enthusiastically, proclaiming Jesus to all they know, but unfortunately, the fire of the mission dims quickly with rejection.

Why is this?   What causes so many to reject the greatest message ever, that of eternal life through belief in Christ?   Why is it that Christians find it so difficult when bringing the hope of Good News to people they know, even friends and family.

I know there are many reasons, but two that primarily come to my mind are these:

1.)    Jesus told us that we would be rejected.
2.)    In order to change the world, our world must first change.
No matter how charismatic we may be in delivering the Good News, the "world" will never be receptive to it.  It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that our message is "heard" and received.   We tend to forget that Jesus told us we would be rejected for His name's sake and get far too discouraged in our efforts to share the Good News.  We have to remember that it is not in our own strength that people are saved, but only through the work of the Holy Spirit living through us.

Another problem we have with changing the world through the message of the Gospel, is frankly that our world has not changed.   Yes, Christ is our personal savior and we are excited about sharing Him with others, but we have not let go of our inner self in order to let Him transform us into his image.  When our lifestyles remain the same, when our friends and families do not see any difference in us than before we became Christ followers, then why would they want to listen to our message?

The story goes that an enthusiastic young man once set out to change the world but upon finding that task impossible to do, he vowed to just change his country.   After finding that he could not even change his country, he set his ambition upon changing his city.  Even that proved to be impossible so he decided to put his efforts toward changing just his family.  At last, when that failed as well,  he realized that before he could change anyone, he had to change himself.

Before we can change the world, we have to allow ourselves to be changed.   In order to bring others to Christ we have to allow the Holy Spirit to work through us, reflecting the love of Christ to all we meet.   In order for others to see a difference in us, enough so that they would want to become Christ followers as well, we have to allow Christ to change us.    Are you living a life that others are able to see Christ living through you?

Jesus is off limits for a lot of families and friends--or at least that's how it appears sometimes. Why does sharing the good news with a stranger often feel less frightening than telling those you love most?   For the vast majority of Christians, evangelism does not come naturally. We find ourselves sounding like someone we're not or beating ourselves up for not being bold enough, smart enough, or quick enough.   Randy Newman understands the complexity and consequences of this all-important task. As a messianic Jew who has led several family members to Christ, he gives insights from the Scriptures, stories of others who have learned some lessons along the way, and specific steps you can take to make progress in engaging with others.   Bringing the Gospel Home will help any Christian seeking to guide loved ones into the family of God.

 | Some Parting Fun....  | | A preacher's little boy inquired, "Daddy, I notice every Sunday morning when you first come out to preach, you sit up on the platform and bow your head. What are you doing?" The father explained, "I'm asking the Lord to give me a good sermon."
The little boy said, "Why don't he?"
