Logos Christian Bookstore Newsletter

Dear ,

A couple of Sunday's ago our pastor played a short video during his sermon that depicted a couple of people "stuck" on an escalator. The situation was humorous because everyone knows that to get out of the predicament all they had to do was move, but they simply stood frozen on the steps, crying out for someone to help them. The visual reference helped us understand what it may look like when we get stuck in our faith journey. Rather than taking steps to move out of our slump we will often get stuck in our ways and attitudes, never moving forward.

In my position as an Information Systems project manager I am often frustrated with a similar situation I call Analysis Paralysis. This occurs anytime people are kept from actually getting anything accomplished because they are spending way too much time and effort attempting to get all the details of the project documented before moving ahead. While plans are important, at some point you just have to "do it" rather than talk or think about it or the project will never get done.

I have to admit that I've been guilty of both of these examples in my Christian walk. There have been times that I have become stuck in my faith journey, thinking there was no way I could move forward or upward. Times that I have neglected to do anything to help myself move past the step that I was on, effectively choosing instead to grow stale and unproductive. There have been other times that I've attempted to over analyze what God was calling me to do. Rather than just doing what He was clearly asking, I would try to pin down every last detail so that I could be in control rather than allowing Him to lead.

Can you relate? Have you had times where your faith has grown stagnant due to your refusal to simply move, or other times where you weren't able to get anything accomplished because you tried to control every little detail? If so, be assured that you are not alone as we all go through these or similar issues as we journey.

When you are facing times of paralysis in your faith, do what we each need to do when faced with these challenges. Seek the help of Christ and make the effort to spend time in prayer and in reading God's Word for direction and inspiration. Ask a Christian friend for counsel and work together toward moving off the step you are on. Volunteer for mission or service and get involved. Soon you'll be moving and growing in faith as you trust and obey.

Blessings,

Steve

Some Parting Fun....
A collector of rare books ran into an acquaintance who told him he had just thrown away an old Bible that he found in a dusty, old box. He happened to mention that Guten-somebody-or-other had printed it.

"Not Gutenberg?" gasped the collector.

"Yes, that was it!"

"OH NO!!! You've thrown away one of the first books ever printed. A copy recently sold at auction for half a million dollars!"

"Oh, I don't think this book would have been worth anything close to that much," replied the man. "It was scribbled all over in the margins by some guy named Martin Luther."
