Dear ,

You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter. - Psalm 74:17 (NASB)

This week we officially entered the summer season. Hot, hazy days that are good for growing crops, swimming in cool ponds, or spending time sipping iced tea in the cooling breeze of a fan. Summer is also a time that families typically use to take a few days away from the day to day work week. Unfortunately, summer can also be a time that church activities seem to close down and many people take a vacation from worshiping God.

Some will go away to cottages or campgrounds to relax and enjoy the great outdoors, searching for peace and quiet.  It can be a great opportunity to renew the mind, refresh the spirit, and spend time with family and friends but it is not a time to leave God behind. Take a good Christian book along that will help you deepen your faith, or a Christian fiction novel to provide entertainment that is based in Christian values.  Search for the evidence of God's greatness in all that you see and experience. Use the time to deepen and strengthen your Christian walk.

Remember to worship while on vacation. Take the opportunity to visit another denomination who although may worship a bit differently, are brothers and sisters in the body of Christ. Open your mind to differing traditions and methods of lifting your praise to God.

If you are not on vacation, keep in mind that there are numerous opportunities for young and old alike to serve at church camps or Vacation Bible School. Make sure that your children get involved this summer in a church related activity such as VBS or use the time on vacation to experience God with them in ways that you may not usually consider. Here is a link for some great summer family devotional activities.  5 Great Ideas for Family Vactaion Devotions

Even during the summer there are ministry needs such as the ill who need help and comfort or the elderly who need a visit or call.  And just to be sure that you do not forget, the church does not close its doors on Sunday. There is plenty to do to fill in for those who may be away on vacation. Take the opportunity to fill in for those who are gone - offer to assist with a class, consider helping as an usher, or take a turn cleaning up or preparing communion. Get involved in ways that you may not normally do.

Dear Father, as we enjoy the summer you have provided, we pray that whatever we do or wherever we go that we would never leave you behind. We pray that you will give those on vacation traveling mercy and cleansing refreshment.  We lift our hearts in worship and ask that you expand our horizons with new experiences that will deepen our faith and commitment to you. Renew in us a right spirit during this summer season so that our desire to serve you will be set ablaze. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Blessings,

Steve

Bible Brain Teaser
Find 16 Books of the Bible in this paragraph.

I once made a remark about the hidden books of the Bible. It was a lulu, kept people looking so hard for facts, and for others it was a revelation. Some were in a jam, especially since the names were not capitalized, but the truth finally struck home to numbers of readers. To others it was a real job. We want it to be a most fascinating few moments for you. Yes, there will be some really easy ones to spot. Others may require judges to help them. I will quickly admit it usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there will be a loud lamentations when it is found. A little lady says she brews a cup of tea, so she can concentrate better. See how well you can compete. Relax now for there are really 16 names of books of the Bible in this story.

The solution is posted on the bulletin board at Logos Christian Bookstore.

Some Parting Fun....

10. God was worried that Adam would frequently become lost in the garden because he would not ask for directions.

9. God knew that one day Adam would require someone to locate and hand him the remote.

8. God knew Adam would never go out and buy himself a new fig leaf when his wore out and would therefore need Eve to buy one for him.

7. God knew Adam would never be able to make a doctor, dentist or haircut appointment for himself.

6. God knew Adam would never remember which night to put the garbage on the curb.

5. God knew if the world was to be populated, men would never be able to handle the pain and discomfort of childbearing.

4. As the Keeper of the Garden, since he didn't have metal sheds or greenhouses, Adam would never remember where he left his tools.

3. Apparently, Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when God caught him hiding in the garden.

2. As the Bible says, "It is not good for man to be alone!"

And the #1 reason why God created Eve:

1. When God finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched His head and said, "I can do better than that!"
