Logos Christian Bookstore Newsletter

Dear ,

There were some Greek people, too, who came to Jerusalem to worship at the Passover Feast. They went to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said, "Sir, we would like to see Jesus." Philip told Andrew, and then Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

Jesus said to them, "The time has come for the Son of Man to receive his glory.  I tell you the truth, a grain of wheat must fall to the ground and die to make many seeds. But if it never dies, it remains only a single seed. Those who love their lives will lose them, but those who hate their lives in this world will keep true life forever. Whoever serves me must follow me. Then my servant will be with me everywhere I am. My Father will honor anyone who serves me.  "Now I am very troubled. Should I say, 'Father, save me from this time'? No, I came to this time so I could suffer. Father, bring glory to your name!"

Then a voice came from heaven, "I have brought glory to it, and I will do it again."  The crowd standing there, who heard the voice, said it was thunder.  But others said, "An angel has spoken to him."

Jesus said, "That voice was for your sake, not mine. Now is the time for the world to be judged; now the ruler of this world will be thrown down. If I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people toward me." Jesus said this to show how he would die.

Jesus was born to die for our sins. ALL of us and ALL sin. He did not whine, or cry, or quit, or say "Nope, Not me!" He saw that the purpose of His life was bigger than himself. All of us have been asked to do the same thing, die to ourselves so that we may live in eternity.

-John 12:20-33 (NCV)

Jesus knew his purpose and was willing to do whatever he had to do in order to fulfill it.  Even to the point of going to the cross! Even if it would have been for only me!  That's how much he cares.

What is your purpose?

Is it to be the one that shares a meal with an elderly person who is all alone?  Is it to be a friendly face to strangers passing by?  Could it be that your purpose is to be the Sunday School teacher that shares the Gospel with a child who may otherwise never hear?  Are you the person to invite a grouchy neighbor to a seeker's service.  Is your purpose to listen to a disheartened teenager?

One of my favorite quotes is by Oscar Hammerstein II, who said "A bell's not a bell 'til you ring it, A song's not a song 'til you sing it, Love in your heart wasn't put there to stay, Love isn't love 'til you give it away!"

Are you ready to have purpose?  Share the love that Christ put in your heart just as He shared His love with us when He gave himself so freely so that we might live in eternity.

Blessings,

Steve

He Chose the Nails

Lucado invites us to understand the symbols surrounding Christ's

crucifixion and celebrate the significance of the promises they offer. From the sign in different languages tacked to the cross ("I will speak to you in your language") to the burial clothing ("I can turn your tragedy into triumph"), he speaks of each symbol as a "gift of grace" that reveals God's love for mankind.

Lucado takes us to Calvary and shows us our sins nailed between the hand of Jesus and the cross. "You've made some bad choices in life, haven't you," writes Lucado. "You've chosen the wrong friends, maybe the wrong career, even the wrong spouse. You look back over your life and say, 'If only I could make up for those bad choices.' You can. One good choice for eternity offsets a thousand bad ones on earth. The choice is yours."

Whether he's bantering around phrases like "the hall monitors of holiness" or crafting a deeper expository on the crown of thorns, Lucado neatly balances the task of making his words accessible to a broad audience while delivering a meaty message on God's greatest sacrifice. Pick up this insightful read, and you'll be glad you made the choice.

Some Parting Fun....

How to Pray

Three friends were outside having a discussion one day about the best position to be in when you pray.

"The best position to be in is kneeling," said the first.

"No," said the second, "the best position to be in is with your hands outstreached to heaven."

The remaining friend said, "The best position to be in is lying on the floor with your face to the ground."

A telephone repair man was working on the lines nearby and overheard the conversation.

He yelled down, .....

"The best praying I ever did was handing upside down from a telephone pole!"
