Dear ,

John 3:1-3
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

As a religious leader, Nicodemus does all the right things and he does them to perfection. There's not a day goes by that he doesn't spend hours in sincere prayer. He gives of his time and resources to God's work without fail. He faithfully attends all of the church services and most likely even has a key to the front door. He has a lot of scripture committed to memory and even believes that Jesus is truly sent from God.

Yet, Jesus doesn't congratulate him for his passion and enthusiasm, nor even acknowledge that Nicodemus has correctly identified Jesus as being from God. He simply answers Nicodemus with a simple truth that he couldn't see the kingdom of God without a change in his life. He had to be "born again".

I'm sure that many of us can relate to Nicodemus. We work hard to be found worthy through the things we do. We give, we attend, we pray, and we serve faithfully. But just like with Nicodemus, Jesus wants us to make sure that we are giving, attending, praying, and serving due to the change that He has made in our hearts, due to our "new birth", rather than through our desire to earn a relationship with God. We can outwardly do all the "right" things and still be lost if we don't accept Jesus into our hearts. Outward appearances, through our own effort to do the right things, will never replace true change exhibited from an inward re-birth.

As we continue our Lenten journey, let us examine our motives for service.   If you find that you are serving due to a sense of obligation, or of attempting to earn favor, rather than through a genuine, joyful expression of love, please take some time to reflect and seek His transforming power. It will cleanse your heart, renew your strength and lighten your load.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast

Blessings,

Steve

believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

A twenty-six-word parade of hope: beginning with God, ending with life and urging us to do the same.

Brief enough to write on a napkin or memorize in a moment, yet solid enough to weather two thousand years of storms and questions.

The heart of the human problem is the heart of the human. And God's treatment is prescribed in John 3:16.

He loves. He gave. We believe. We live.

separated by a car wreck that claims Mandy?s life?or so everyone thinks. Even as Dane mourns and tries to rebuild his life without her, Mandy, supposedly dead, awakes in the present as the nineteen-year-old she was in 1970. Distraught and disoriented in what to her is the future, she is confined to a mental ward until she discovers a magical ability to pass invisibly through time and space to escape. Alone in a strange world, she uses her mysterious powers to eke out a living, performing magic on the streets and in a quaint coffee shop.

Hoping to discover an exciting new talent, Dane ventures into the coffee shop and is transfixed by the magic he sees, illusions that even he, a seasoned professional, cannot explain. But more than anything, he is emotionally devastated by this teenager who has never met him, doesn?t know him, is certainly not in love with him, but is in every respect identical to the young beauty he first met and married some forty years earlier.

They begin a furtive relationship as mentor and protégée, but even as Dane tries to sort out who she really is and she tries to understand why she is drawn to him, they are watched by secretive interests who not only possess the answers to Mandy?s powers and misplacement in time but also the roguish ability to decide what will become of her.

Frank Peretti has crafted a rich, rewarding story of love and life, loss and restoration, full of twists and mystery. Exceptionally well written, Illusion will soon prove another Peretti classic.

Some Parting Fun....
A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, 5, and Ryan, 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake.

Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. "If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait.'

Kevin immediately turned to his younger brother and said,

"Ryan, you be Jesus!"
