I was reminded this week of a song that was popular several years ago entitled "What if I gave all".
The song lyrics tell of a little boy attending church services with his mother where he hears the preacher say that a single dime could feed a hungry boy or girl with nothing to eat. Upon hearing, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a dollar bill from his birthday money.
"How many will this feed Mama", he asks. His mother tells her son ten, and he promptly reaches back into his pocket to pull out all three of his birthday dollars asking "What if I gave all?"
As the song continues we are reminded of a Father's love some 2000 years ago as his Son asks, "what if I give all? What would that gift do?"
The Father, with tears in his eyes, says, "My Son, that gift will change the world, it will free the multitudes"
Not just at Easter, but all through the year, we should consider the question What if we gave all instead of just enough? What if we gave all we have to worship and adore our Creator? What if we gave ourselves completely in service to the kingdom of God? What if we gave of our resources as if they weren't ours to hold onto?
I'm sure that if we did, a gift like that could change the world, it could feed the multitudes with the love and compassion of Christ.
