Can you believe it? Next Wednesday "Ash Wednesday", February 22, begins the Lenten season leading to Easter, 2012.
Ash Wednesday is a somber day reminding us that from dust we came, and to dust we will return, but it is also one that is filled with hope. Hope that reminds us that physical death does not have the final victory; that through Christ we can be redeemed and join our Risen Savior in eternal life.
Ash Wednesday also gives us an opportunity to reflect on our lives and begin preparing our hearts for Easter. Take some time this coming week to examine yourself, to ask Jesus to reveal things to you that could, an perhaps should, change. It may not be giving up something as is traditionally embraced during Lent; perhaps it should be adding an activity to help develop a closer relationship with Him. A daily devotional time or a mission outreach may be something you sense Christ would have you do.
As you seek God's will in your life this Lenten Season, may He bring to you a realization of the important things in life, and a willingness to let go of the not so important things. May He give you strength to rely upon Him to either leave, or seek out, those things that will draw you into a closer relationship with Him.
Let this be our prayer this Ash Wednesday and all through the year...
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10 (NASB)
