Dear ,
~being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philipians 1:6 NIV)
We all have problems and if you are like me, you would just as soon live without them. But have you ever thought about the possibility that God is actually using what we perceive to be problems to mold and shape us into what He wants us to be?
Next time your problems are getting you down, instead of resenting that you have them, think about these ways that God could be using them for good.
- God Uses Problems to Direct You: Sometimes God uses a problem to motivate you into action. Problems are often indicators that a change in behavior or direction is needed. Is God trying to get your attention? Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways. Proverbs 20:30
- God Uses Problems to Inspect You: If you want to know the true character of a person, put them into a tough situation. Like Job, could your problems be an indication that your Faith is being tested? If you have troubles, be full of Joy for troubles test your faith. James 1:2-3
- God Uses Problems to Correct You: It seems that I tend to learn things the hard way. Many times I have ignored sound advice only to find myself in a problem that brought pain and failure. Sometimes we only learn the true value of something when we lose it.... a relationship, money, health. Psalms 119:71-72
- God Uses Problems to Protect You: Could be that what is perceived as a problem is actually protecting you from harm. Have you ever been late to an event to discover that had you been on time you possibly would have been caught in a horrible traffic accident? Genesis 50:20
- God Uses Problems to Perfect You: When you respond correctly to your problems you are builiding character. God is far more interested in your character than your comfort. Romans 5:3-4

Trusting God in Troubled Times |
| In Store or On-Line |
Do you look around you and see nothing but trouble? Or are you experiencing firsthand a time of suffering? Do you wonder how any good can come out of the world you live in?
In the Old Testament book of Isaiah, you'll discover that trouble and suffering are nothing new to God's people. But the prophet Isaiah raises a loud cry for revival in this midst of a rotting society. Isaiah firmly believes that God can triumph even in the worst of times.
As author Howard Peskett guides you through these studies on Isaiah, you'll dig deep into the prophet's revolutionary message of repentance, forgiveness and hope. And you'll find comfort for coping with your own troubled times.
This LifeGuide Bible Study features questions for starting group discussions and for meeting God in personal reflection, as well as a new "Now or Later" section following each session to help you act on what you learn. |
not a fan. |
| In Store or On-Line | The Dictionary defines a fan as "an enthusiastic admirer." Fans want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close that it requires sacrifice. Fans may be fine with repeating a prayer, attending church on the weekend, and slapping a Jesus fish on their bumpers. But is that really the extent of the relationship Jesus wants?
Jesus was never interested in having admirers. It's not fans he is looking for.
Not a fan challenges you to consider what it really means to call yourself a Christian. With a direct frankness that you're not likely to hear in Sunday school class, Kyle Idleman (teaching pastor at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY) invites you to take an honest look at your relationship with Jesus. His call to follow may seem radical to us, but Jesus desires it for every believer. |

Some Parting Fun.... |
Johnny was coming home from church one Sunday morning with his mother. His mother noticed he had a serious look on his face.
"What's on your mind, Johnny?" she asked.
"Is it true what the preacher said about us all coming from dust and turning back to dust?"
" Why , Yes, it is, Johnny," she said. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, when we get home," he answered, "You better look under my bed, because someone's either comin' or goin!"
