At the beginning of each new year many people resolve to do something different with their lives. Some will resolve to quit doing something, others will resolve to start doing something. In most cases, the resolution will be in the best interest of the person making the resolution. In many cases, however, the likelihood of success will be slim because the expected results will come too slowly, and with too much effort, causing the person to give up before succeeding.
Whatever resolutions you may make, be sure to keep in perspective the way things change. Changes usually do not happen in an instant, and just as bad habits developed over time, corrections in lifestyle usually take just as much time to create positive differences.
I found the following recipe for a Happy New Year and think it to be a good way to break things down into a manageable way to greet each morning.
RECIPE FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Take twelve whole months, clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy. Make them just as fresh and clean as possible.
Now cut each month into twenty-eight (nine this year), thirty, or
thirty-one different parts, but don't make up the whole batch at once. Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients.
Mix well into each day one part of faith, one part of patience, one part of courage, and one part of work.
Add to each day one part of hope, faithfulness, generosity, and kindness. Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation, and one good deed. Season the whole with a dash of good spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play, and a cupful of good humor.
Pour all of this into a vessel of love. Cook thoroughly over radiant joy, garnish with a smile, and serve each day with quietness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness.
You're bound to have a happy new year.

Some Parting Fun.... |
A Minister was walking down the street when he came upon a group of about a dozen boys, all of them between 10 and 12 years of age.
The group had surrounded a dog. Concerned lest the boys were hurting the dog, he went over and asked "What are you doing with that dog?"
One of the boys replied, "This dog is just an old neighborhood stray. We all want him, but only one of us can take him home. So we've decided that whichever one of us can tell the biggest lie will get to keep the dog."
Of course, the reverend was taken aback. "You boys shouldn't be having a contest telling lies!" he exclaimed. He then launched into a ten minute sermon against lying, beginning, "Don't you boys know it's a sin to lie," and ending with, "Why, when I was your age, I never told a lie."
There was dead silence for about a minute. Just as the reverend was beginning to think he'd gotten through to them, the smallest boy gave a deep sigh and said, "All right, give him the dog."

It's been a few years since I have read completely through the Bible. This year I'm going to apply myself to do it again. 
Each week in the Logos Bookstore Newsletter we publish a reading plan that will take you chronologically through the Bible in one year. Chronologically simply means arranged in the order of time.
One of the great values of any Bible reading schedule is the development of the discipline of reading. God's chosen method of making His will known today is through His written word.
Send me an email if you plan to follow the daily readings. It will be fun to keep in touch as we read through the entire Bible in one year.
