Logos Christian Bookstore Newsletter

Dear ,

Most likely one of your top priorities these last few weeks has been to simply try to stay cool and drink plenty of water.  As I was thinking about keeping cool, with heat indices climbing above 105, I started humming the verse of a song our quartet sings.

"We are living in a dry and thirsty land, each day it's getting harder to cross this burning sand.  Still I know there's cool clear water just ahead, where the dying soul of man shall soon be fed"

Can you believe the heat we've experienced in July?  And just think, it is usually hotter in August!

We are  fortunate to live in an area where seasons change and the heat will not last forever.  Before you know it, the mornings will be laden with frost and there will be a crispness in the air as fall arrives to refresh us.  Just ahead is relief from the season, hang in there!

As Christians, we are even more fortunate to know that springs of living water bubble over within so that no matter the "temperature", or circumstances we are enduring, it is possible to be cool and refreshed.

As you endure the August heat, share some of the water within to bring refreshment to someone you know who may need an encouraging word or helping hand.   Smile at the clerk ringing up your purchase, leave a better than usual tip to your server, let someone take a parking spot in front of you.

There are so many ways we can reflect the love of the one who gives the water which completely quenches our thirst.   Bring someone to the well through your kindness today.

"But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life." - John 4:14

 Refreshing Water

Blessings,

Steve

The Rev. John Stott, one of the world's most influential figures in the spread of evangelical Christianity over the past half-century, died Wednesday in Lingfield, Surrey, in the south of England. He was 90.

Mr. Stott was the author of about 50 books published in 65 languages. Among his best known are "Basic Christianity" (1958), "Christ the Controversialist" (1970) and "The Cross of Christ" (1986).

"Basic Christianity" alone has been translated into more than 60 languages and has sold more than 2.5 million copies, according to the John Stott Ministries, which said his books have sold more than eight million copies worldwide. His last book - he himself described it as such - was "The Radical Disciple: Some Neglected Aspects of Our Calling," published in 2010.

Though less known in the United States and hardly a household name outside the evangelical sphere, Mr. Stott, an author, preacher and theologian, was often compared to the Rev. Billy Graham, his American contemporary.

"The evangelical world has lost one of its greatest spokesmen," Mr. Graham said in a statement on Wednesday, "and I have lost one of my close personal friends and advisers. I look forward to seeing him again when I go to heaven."

Some Parting Fun....

A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17."

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the
minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up.

The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."
