Dear ,
Does my life make a difference?
Many times in our lives we may feel as if what we do or say does not matter, but the truth is, what we do and say can make a difference that will impact many.
This past week Marie and I attended the Logos Annual Conference where we were fortunate to meet with several authors and publishers. Each year it seems that the conference begins to take on an adhoc theme as the authors share with us what is on their hearts. This year was no different as several of the presenting authors spoke on the way that God uses even the most insignificant among us to influence others for the Kingdom.
Cecil Murphey, best known as the man behind the words, writing other's stories, shared several examples from his writings of how someone had shaped the life of another through a seemingly insignificant act. He shared how a mother who could not read nor write challenged her elementary son to write a book review each week and submit it to her. The young man did not know that she could not read and wasn't "smart" enough to know that one could challenge a mother's instructions. Because of her influence, that young man grew up to become one of the worlds' foremost surgeons, Ben Carson.
Debbie Macomber, remember her Mrs. Miracle books turned into movies?, shared with us how her husband, a construction worker, encouraged her to pursue her dream of becoming a writer. He did so as their family was facing economic hardships to the point of having to sell the family car and sacrificing the income she could have otherwise earned so that she could continue working to make it as an author.
Jeff Crosby, associate publisher and director of sales and marketing with Intervarsity Press (Bible in Life study guides), shared how a friend's recommendation for a good book to read had helped him grow spiritually. It was refreshing to hear from others how important each of us can be in the lives of our friends, families, neighbors, co-workers and anyone we may meet along the journey. We may never know what a difference we have made but it is very important to persevere. Cecil Murphey stated that "People may not remember, but God does!"
Several years ago I heard this short poem that captures the importance of living a life for Christ in whatever we do, no matter how insignificant we may feel.
You are writing a gospel, a chapter each day
By deeds that you do, by words that you say.
Men "read" what you "write", whether faithless or true.
Say, what is the gospel, according to you?

Ben Carson, M.D., works medical miracles. Today, he's one of the most celebrated neurosurgeons in the world. In Gifted Hands, he tells of his inspiring odyssey from his childhood in inner-city Detroit to his position as director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33.
Ben Carson is a role model for anyone who attempts the seemingly impossible as he takes you into the operating room where he has saved countless lives. Filled with fascinating case histories, this is the dramatic and intimate story of Ben Carson's struggle to beat the odds -- and of the faith and genius that make him one of the greatest life-givers of the century.
On the way home from a conference, Don Piper's car was crushed by a semi that crossed into his lane. Medical personnel said he died instantly. While his body lay lifeless inside the

ruins of his car, Piper experienced the glories of heaven, awed by its beauty and music. Ninety minutes after the wreck, while a minister prayed for him, Piper miraculously returned to life on earth with only the memory of inexpressible heavenly bliss. His faith in God was severely tested as he faced an uncertain and grueling recovery. Now he shares his life-changing story with you.
90 Minutes in Heaven offers a glimpse into a very real dimension of God's reality. It encourages those recovering from serious injuries and those dealing with the loss of a loved one. The experience dramatically changed Piper's life, and it will change yours too.

God's Guest List |
| Purchase Online | Who is on God's "guest list" for your life . . . and why? The answers may surprise you.
Through touching true stories and inspiring insight Debbie Macomber takes readers on a journey to discover the shaping influence others have on us and the power we have to shape and influence those whose paths cross ours.
Each of us have "influencers" that have affected our lives-some from a distance, some through word or deed, some through example, be it good or bad. Often we don't even recognize the deep impact others have had and how God has used them to shape us into who we are. By pausing to recognize these influences we begin to grasp how God's guest list had a purpose far beyond what we imagined. We begin to see the seeds of influence that grew into our personal values and character.
In some people God invites into our lives, we see only what appears to be painful or negative influence. We bear the scars of disappointment, hurt, betrayal, and pain. Here Macomber redirects our attention, opening our eyes to how those experiences prompted strength, resilience, resolve, decisions, and choices about how we would change and who we would become. In other instances, God has surprised us with just the people at just the right time to support, teach, lead, or love us, but perhaps we haven't quite recognized God's timing and work through these "guests."
But perhaps the greatest treasure this book holds is the power to grasp our own power to influence others, and even to anticipate what lives we have yet to touch. In the tradition of How to Win Friends and Influence People, Macomber casts a vision to seize every opportunity to be a positive and faithful influence on others. With this realization comes the willingness and anticipation to live with the door of our lives wide open to greet each new life God brings across the threshold.
God's Guest List is filled with true stories and rich insight that will forever change how you see the people in your life. |

Some Parting Fun.... |
A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Sunday School.
As she ran she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!"
While she was running and praying, she tripped on the curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress.
She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again. As she ran she once again began to pray, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late....But please don't shove me either!"
