Logos Christian Bookstore Newsletter |
Dear ,
When God asks us to do something for him it can be very overwhelming and cause us to be filled with fear.
I've experienced this myself on a number of occasions when God has directed me to do something for Him. Singing in front of people, asking someone how their relationship is with Jesus, or even things as simple as asking someone to come to church can cause me to become afraid. Nine years ago when He asked me to quit a successful job in Ohio, and move to Kentucky,it was frightening, but when He told me that I was to open a Christian bookstore in Alexandria, I was terrified.
God has a way of reaffirming and comforting and when we seek Him, He is always there to guide, protect, and encourage us on the journey. As I struggled with the fear of opening the bookstore He gave me encouragement by validating that He really was asking me to do this. At the time I was struggling with the decision He brought a sermon through our pastor that if we fail to act on God's calling in our lives that God would find someone else but we'd miss the blessing that He had in store for us. Another message that spoke very directly to me was the hymn selection on a Sunday morning when I was about to give up - it was "The Hymn of Promise" which speaks of how God reveals everything in its season and that from the past comes the future. My past could very well contribute to the future of His assignment for me in Alexandria if only I would say yes. He continued to confirm and encourage with many other definite signs - stop in sometime and ask me about His provision, I would be honored to share.
In the Bible, Gideon was afraid when God asked him to take just 300 men and attack the forces of the Midianites who were as "thick as locusts" in the valley, and had camels that "could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore". God knew that Gideon was afraid and gave him a affirmation, and the encouragement needed to fulfill his mission.
Maybe God is asking you to serve at your local church, perhaps He's moving you to speak with someone about Jesus. Could even be that you've been asked to serve in a way that is way beyond your means or comprehension. Whether it's simply to befriend someone, silently serve or to travel to the mission field, God will definitely provide whatever is necessary for you to carry out His will for your life.
Blessings,
Steve

Help IHN get Wheels! |
The Interfaith Hospitality Network of Northern Kentucky is one of 500 finalists in Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program, which will award vehicles to 100 non-profit organizations based on votes from the public that started May 9.
The 100 Cars for Good program will showcase five nonprofit organizations each day for 100 days on Toyota's Facebook page, http://facebook.com/toyota. Visitors to the page can vote once per day for the organization they feel is most deserving of a new Toyota vehicle. The one with the most votes, of the five listed each day, will receive a new Toyota vehicle.
If IHN receives the most votes and is awarded a new Toyota, it will be used to replace the organization's current vehicle, which is breaking down and unreliable for transporting homeless children and families. The new vehicle will help transport kids to school and make sure parents get to job and housing interviews or important education and counseling classes that enable them to return to employment and a home of their own.
IHN will be one of the five organizations highlighted for voting on
Wednesday, June 15.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!
Please spread the word to help IHN - tell your church, your friends, your neighbors - this is a great organization, worthy of our support!

'Where Is My Paper?'
The irate customer calling the newspaper offices, loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.
'Ma'am, said the employee, today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered 'til Sunday.'
There was quite a pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition.
'So that's why no one was in church today.'
