Dear ,

"Blessed Assurance!, Jesus is mine"

Francis Jane Crosby wrote more than 3,000 hymns, some of which are among the most popular in every Christian denomination. She wrote so many that she was forced to use pen names lest the hymnals be filled with her name above all others. And, for most people, the most remarkable thing about her was that she had done so in spite of her blindness.

 "I think it is a great pity that the Master did not give you sight when he showered so many other gifts upon you," remarked one well-meaning preacher.

Fanny Crosby responded at once, as she had heard such comments before. "Do you know that if at birth I had been able to make one petition, it would have been that I was born blind?" said the poet, who had been able to see only for her first six weeks of life. "Because when I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior."

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God.
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angles descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Not much is known of the background of this Fanny Crosby hymn, "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine."  Fanny tells this one story about the hymn.  Mrs. Joseph Fairchild Knapp, wife of the organizer of the Metropolitan Life Insurance company, went to visit her and get an opinion of a tune Mrs. Knapp had written.  "What does it say to you, Fanny?" she asked.  Fanny's answer was "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine."  And then a few minutes later she handed to Mrs. Knapp the completed lyrics of the hymn.  The tune and the lyrics were put together and are still sung today.

Blessings,

Her Heart Can See

"Her Heart Can See" offers an intimate, informed look at the life and times of Fanny J. Crosby (1820-1915), the most prolific of all American hymn writers. Though long gone, Crosby is still hot: her songs, including such all-time favorites as "Blessed Assurance," "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior," "Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross," "Rescue the Perishing," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "I Am Thine, O Lord," and many others, continue to be sung all over the world.

Drawing on primary sources - including thousands of unpublished Crosby manuscripts held in the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College - Edith Blumhofer sorts fact from fiction in the life of this remarkable woman whose biographers have often cared more about inspiration than about accuracy. Blumhofer sets Crosby fully in the context of her times and responsibly limns her life as a gifted nineteenth-century northeastern Protestant woman, in the process showing why "this diminutive woman" held - and still holds - such fascinating appeal.

Chronology - Volume II
Take a moment and contemplate, if you will, titles such as Cry Out To Jesus, Nothing Compares, Creed, Show Me Your Glory or Come On Back To Me. Would you be shocked to find they were all taken from one artist and all in the space of five years?

With album titles including Come Together, Offerings 2, Wire and Wherever You Are, Third Day have certainly staked a claim as the most influential Christian rock band of the past decade. Show Me Your Glory is just one of those songs that has reached people through radio and other media as well as church life.

This chronology CD/DVD pack includes the brilliant, and some would say signature tune (taken from the band's hero Rich Mullins) Creed. It also brings to life the southern rock of Come Together and Come On Back To Me as well as the worship anthem God Of Wonders.
