Greetings ,
The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 has proved popular with new aircraft sales this spring, but did you know it also includes capital expenses in the form of avionics upgrades? Our article this month explores this further.
Read about the special display of WWII aircraft coming the first week in June to our sister company at 2Q3: Davis Flight Support.
This month, we've added sidebar links of WA attended airshows and events, as
well as popular local non-aviation events. Stop by our booth for a
visit, schedule a demo flight, or chat avionics.
A new General Manager announcement, April's review from our Vice President, and words about aircraft detailing round out this month's issue. Don't forget the coupon at the bottom.
See you at the Airshows!

WWII Aircraft at Yolo County Airport
|
Coming June 2, 3, 4 at Yolo County Airport (2Q3), Davis Flight Support is hosting a stop on The Collings Foundation "Wings of Freedom Tour". There will be a B-17, B-24, B-25 and P-51C on display and available for ground and flying tours. To reserve a flying experience, view pricing, or find out information about the Foundation, please click HERE. All proceeds to tour inside or fly in these aircraft go to maintaining these aircraft and their history.
These honored warbirds will be on display for the first time at Yolo County Airport. We're hoping to get enough interest to have them return next year on a weekend; please spread the word, save the date, and reserve a flight! Yolo County Airport's military history is well suited as a backdrop for these aircraft. 2Q3 was a base for various military operations from 1942-1948: medium bomber base, P-38 and P-39 training sub-base, as well as B-25 reliever airport. Please note this is not an airshow or typical aviation event; these aircraft will be on display at Davis Flight Support as a living flying museum honoring their place in aviation history. Entrance into this display is FREE; however, there won't be any assortment of food and craft vendors typically found at airshows. Here's a perfect venue for an old-fashioned picnic: bring family, friends, picnic lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, and camera! For driving directions, click HERE. Economic Stimulus Act and Avionics
|
We'll be sending out an Avionics emailer featuring Aspen Avionics, Garmin and Sandel products in May. Talk to your tax consultant, then Mike to see how your aircraft can be upgraded with your favorite brand this year: 800-442-1333.
The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 provides a hefty depreciation for the purchase of aircraft in 2008, but did you know it also applies to upgrading the avionics in your aircraft? The Special Expensing Election (Section 179), allows for an immediate substantial tax advantage for capital upgrades - of which avionics qualify.*
What a great time to upgrade. It's an exciting time for the avionics industry; there are many emerging technologies providing more options for capabilities, costs - and confusion. What's the best choice for your aircraft, preferences, and budget?
Woodland Aviation is versed in all these technologies, and can provide the solution designed to your needs. Our list of avionics manufacturers continues to grow as does our expertise; from upgrades modest to extensive, we handle them all with the same quality and consideration. Our avionics services include:
- Consultation: the best solution fitting your budget
- Engineering: complete CAD drawings, circuit diagrams
- QC: FAA required inspections, tests, docs are in place
- Testing: all test and certification flights completed
- Support and Service: delivered clean, inside and out
Talk with your aviation tax consultant about the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 and your applicable tax situation. Then come visit our Avionics Department to upgrade your aircraft and take advantage of the tax depreciation!

J.Pilot Tip: Clean Machine
|
Shawn Matthies, Director of Maintenance
A clean aircraft is more than good looks; it enhances performance, longevity, and value of your aircraft. Clean surfaces travel an average of 3kts faster than when dirty. The data to back that claim doesn't define "dirty", but whether the speed gained is great or small, a clean aircraft seems faster, looks better, and lasts longer: - Clean surface reduces drag
- Reduced drag results in improved fuel consumption
- Less fuel consumption enhances lower operating costs
- Added protection against fading and cracking
- Easier to spot discrepancies (drips, etc) pre or post flight
A complete aircraft wash and vacuum is included with an annual from Woodland Aviation. We even clean and inspect the landing gear. Protect your aircraft even further by adding a wax service. To find out more about our detail options and services, contact Laura or Kesty in Customer Service: 800-442-1333. A clean exterior is only part of the equation. Interior cleaning and protecting is sometimes overlooked. Regular interior detailing keeps your aircraft looking its best: - Keeps leather conditioned and supple
- Protected longer from aging, cracking, fading
- Clean interiors tend to assist in holding aircraft value
- Looks professional, organized, well-maintained to clients
- Smells nice - a big factor for passengers
Woodland Aviation uses the professional services of Ron Sanow's Elite Leather Care for leather repair, restoration, and cleaning. Regular interior and exterior detailing using the latest in protective products will keep your aircraft sparkling, performing more efficiently, maintain its value longer, even gain a knot or 2!

From The Flight Deck
|
Gary Pelfrey, Vice President
April was a busy month; aircraft sales in both new and used products were solid, and continue to remain strong. We've closed out April with new Bonanza sales, and welcome May doing the same. Our sales force is now focused on the Baron, which is a popular performance aircraft and a great time-builder for transitioning to a VLJ. We've also been busy hiring at both Woodland Aviation and our sister company, Davis Flight Support. Welcome to Chris: A&P, Kesty: Customer Support Representative, Jeb: Avionics Tech, and Jonathan: Line Service Tech. Additionally, Dan Kaufman has accepted the position as General Manager at Davis Flight Support, with Terry assuming Dan's role as Controller at Woodland. We'll continue to hire, and are actively seeking candidates for all piston, turbine, avionics and line service positions. In conjunction with hiring, we are sending employees to advanced training. Steve, Dave: Diamond Aircraft Maintenance in Ontario, Canada; Brett: G1000 avionics training for KingAir C90 upgrades; Cory: AEA National Convention in Washington, DC. We continue our commitment in investing in our team, remaining current with the latest techniques, and versed in industry trends. An important component of the mission of Woodland Aviation and Davis Flight Support is our involvement with the community and aviation. I invite you to the "Wings Of Freedom Tour" June 2, 3 and 4 at 2Q3. Our philanthropic mission continues with the CASA Annual Charity event, held for the second year at Davis Flight Support. Event links/details can be found on the DFS events page. The next newsletter will have an emphasis on fuel, and ways to assist in getting the best fuel cost possible. Articles will range from aircraft fuel economy tips to negotiating a better price. To our many loyal customers: thank you for your business. If you are not familiar with Woodland Aviation give me a call; I would be pleased to share information about our company, along with a tour of the facilities. Thanks, Gary Pelfrey Vice President
