The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 provides two areas of huge potential tax savings when you purchase a new aircraft in 2008. While both areas are briefly described, the new King Air C90 GTi may only qualify for the first area - the 50% Bonus Depreciation. Please review criteria with your tax consultant, as these figures are only best case estimates.
· 50 PERCENT BONUS DEPRECIATION
The immediate bonus of 50 percent of the cost of the new aircraft placed into business service this year is applied first, followed by accelerated depreciation. The potential is a 2008 deduction total of over half the cost of a new aircraft. The King Air C90 GTi qualifies for this 50% plus accelerated depreciation, for a total potential tax deduction of 60%.
· CAPITAL ASSET EXPENSING ELECTION (section 179)
Taxpayers who invest less than $1,050,00 in new or used capital assets in 2008 may qualify for up to $250,000 in an immediate tax deduction.
