Friends and Colleagues:
I am pleased to say that the McCormack Graduate School is off to a pretty impressive start of 2010:
The Edward J. Collins, Jr. Center for Public Management is offering its first online course, Performance Management for Government and Non-Profits. I hope you will take a look at the prospectus and consider taking the course. Performance management standards and metrics are increasingly being mandated by both federal and state government, and understanding its principles is an increasingly important element of successful management in the public sector.
Programs in our Gerontology Institute continue to be much in the news; our New England Pension Assistance Project has recovered $36M worth of pension benefits over the past 15 years and was prominently featured in the Boston Globe; recent media star Dr. Beth Dugan has been awarded a $20,000 grant in support of her Older Driver Safety and States Licensing Policies project.
The Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy is offering 2 fascinating new online courses, Women's Political Leadership in a Global Perspective taught by Dr. Fatemah Haghighatojoo from Iran, and Women in Public Policy Decision-Making in a Global Perspective, taught by Ban Al-Mahfodh, of the Joiner Center. Additionally, Center Director, Carol Hardy-Fanta has been a prominent commentator on today's historic U.S. Senate election; Los Angeles Times:
"Senate race in Massachusetts comes down to wire," Sirius Satellite XM Radio:
"Morning Briefing," and tune in tonight at 8:00 PM forWBUR with Bob Oakes.
The Center for Rebuilding Sustainable Communities After Disasters is holding a one day conference on rebuilding Haiti. Please check it out.
McCormack Graduate School has now joined Facebook! Please look us up and become a fan.
BTW, sad to say we are losing our terrific Administrative Assistant, Daniel St. John, to the Sociology Department. Many of you know how helpful and cheerful he has been, and we will miss him very much.
The Super Bowl won't be much fun this year, but the NBA play-offs seem promising.
