Hello

Magnet in Refrig - Kristi KeddyI had to call on an organizing friend this month to help me re-decorate our house.  Kristi Keddy owns A Finishing Touch Organizing and she is terrific at finding beautiful spaces beyond the clutter.  Kristi came over and helped with staging prior to a photo shoot by the Sacramento Bee.  (The article was printed in Sac Bee Home & Garden on September 22 - see article here).  Then I reciprocated by helping her clear out her business files.  Kristi treated me to a delicious kale salad (really, it was delicious) and when she opened her refrigerator I saw this ingenious way to store small quantities of food.  Kristi uses a magnetic clip as a bag holder.  Works great on a metal interior.

Wishing you well organized spaces,

Shelly

GETTING ORGANIZED in 2012

Watch Out for the MINIS

Want to know the most dangerous words in the organizing world?

They are, "Maybe I'll Need It Someday"

I sometimes refer to them as RED FLAG words.  Question your motives when you hear these MINIS:

Maybe...

I Might...

Someday...

Just in case...

For now....

To help you make a decision on whether to keep that piece of paper, Aunt Betty's tablecloth, or the third set of drill bits, here are some tips:

If you answer YES to these questions - It may be OK to KEEP IT

  • Do you absolutely love it?
  • Do you know exactly how you will use it?
  • Is it one-of-a-kind or irreplaceable?
  • Does it add value to your life or to this space?
  • Do you have the room to store it effectively?

If you answer YES to these questions - You could GIVE IT AWAY

  • Can you replace it for a reasonable investment of time or money?
  • Do you already have a similar item or duplicate?

Other good questions to ask yourself

  • What is the worst thing that could happen if I got rid of this? Can I live with the consequences?
  • Why am I keeping this? (be honest here)
  • Is there a better way to honor the value or sentiment of this item?

Asking these questions will help you make a decision about whether or not to keep and store your possessions.

GoodTipsGood Things to Know

Coffee Cans

Try this for holding nails, nuts & bolts, or small tools in your garage.  (Good for crafts too)

Tape a sample of the article to the outside of the coffee can.

Screw the lids of spice jars to the bottom of the shelf, then fill with small items.

Genius!
