Hello
DONE!!! Spent over two months this summer doing some major redecorating of five rooms in the house. Moving out of the 80's you know. What an ordeal, but now I'm reminded how any upheavel in your comfort zone feels. Now for that margarita...in my newly re-designed kitchen.

GETTING ORGANIZED in 2012 | |

August - Planning for the Season Switch
I know it's still hot outside, but before you know it the weather will begin to feel like fall. Start thinking about moving into the next season as those first leaves begin to change color. Here are three things to do in preparation for the season switch.
1. Purge seasonal clothes for storage, donation or toss
-
As you put away summer clothing, select items that you can donate or toss. Clean and repair the rest before storing in dust-free containers. -
Keep like things together and label the containers for easy retrieval next summer.
2. Clean and prepare summer tools, furniture, and gear for winter storage
-
Just like clothing, the summer tools should be purged, repaired and cleaned prior to storage for the winter. -
Acquire covers for furniture left out to the winter elements. Extra large garbage bags can adequately cover chairs or umbrellas. -
If you store items in a shed be sure to keep like with like. Put the gardening equipment in one area, the pool supplies in another. Label the shelves to make finding items easier. -
Put containers that might leak in plastic tubs (labeled) and check the container for safe storage guidelines. -
Many areas offer free disposal of hazardous materials (paint, pesticides, oil, etc.) Watch for these in your local paper and note the disposal date on your calendar.
3. Evaluate preparations needed for winter indoor living
-
As you are closing up the outside living, you need to evaluate the inside living as well. Assess and test your heating system, chimney pipe, propane tanks and connections. Now is the time to do maintenance before the service companies get busy. Check smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. Replace batteries at the same time each year, whether they need it or not! Check level of fire extinguishers, recharge or buy new ones if necessary. -
Bring out warm blankets and refresh by running through the dryer with a fabric softener sheet. If blankets were not cleaned before storage, now is the time to do that. -
Purge any summer clutter that has gathered and make room for life indoors.

Good Things to Know | |
Fall Organizing Class in two weeks! - Once again I will be sharing methods to improve time and space efficiency and to control papers in your office (at home or at work). This motivating class will get you re-thinking your office space. The class is called "The Office Makeover" and is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Placer Adult School in Auburn.
Go to www.placeronline.org to register with credit card for $29. Class number is #3600200
Need storage containers? - Now is the best time of year to buy clear plastic organizing boxes as stores prepare for "off to school" sales. You should be able to find 56 quart boxes for about $7-9. My favorite places to shop for these are at places like Home Depot, Target, K-Mart. Watch the newspaper ads for these stores. Target has Sterilite 3-drawer rolling carts on sale for $10.99 right now. Papers, crafts, seasonal clothes, tools anyone??? I use them right under my desk.
