John and Shely at daughter's wedding

John and I at our daughter's

wedding celebration in November

Hello

Is this winter or summer?  While you are waiting for winter to arrive, start your organizing plan for 2012.  In order to help you start I'm bringing back my "Let's Get Organized" calendar.  Each month I'll suggest three organizing projects to accomplish.  You can do them all, or just some.  By the end of the year you will be super organized and ready for 2013.  Let me know your progress.

Wishing you well-organized spaces in 2012,

Shelly

GETTING ORGANIZED in 2012

JANUARY - Start with a Plan

Christmas ContainerPurge and store away holiday decorations

  • Use containers that will store neatly in the space you have.
  • Sort like items with like items and label the containers where you can see the contents when stored away.
  • Purge unused or broken decorations; really think about what you can reasonable bring out next holiday season.  Donate or toss what you won't use again.

Enter important dates and recurring events on your new calendar (If you don't know the exact date, make note of the event on any empty space)

  • Enter birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, vacation, club meetings, and other annually recurring events.
  • Note months for personal dates; haircut, facial, massage etc.
  • Set months for annual medical, dental, vision appointments
  • Schedule renewals for recurring health prescriptions on the same date each month
  • Spread out car maintenance throughout the year (oil, services)
  • Spread out home maintenance throughout the year (air conditioner, heating, windows/screens, carpet cleaning, pest control)
  • Note pet maintenance due dates (vaccinations, heartworm, flea treatments)
  • Note subscription renewals (newspapers, magazines, on-line services)

Create a list of personal goals for this year
  • Set no more than three reasonable goals to achieve this year (if you achieve all three, you can add more)
  • Keep this list in a visible place and look at it every day
  • Review your calendar each month to see if you are doing activities that support your goals
