Hello

March SnowsMarch...in like a lion, out like a lamb??  Well this lion is ferocious.  My husband and I took a ride up to the mountains between storms and could not believe the amount of snow.  We still probably have 5-6 feet on our cabin deck.  Tried to do a snow angel, but my butt got too wet and cold!

This month I've been tackling a major room switch in my house.  I'm relocating the "man cave" and the home office.  It's been a huge challenge to my organizing skills.  It's hard to stay on task when you get distracted by your own personal clutter.  Can you relate?Much easier to help others!   Hopefully by April I'll be able to share photos.

Here's to a lamb-like Spring,

Shelly
GETTING ORGANIZED in 2010
In 2010 I will be offering you ways to make changes in your life, home and office.  Now it's your job to try something new each month.  Are you ready?

10 Tips for Controlling Mail

 1.           A.C.T. on the mail as soon as it comes into your house; sort into three piles:
  • Items that appear to need Action (bills, invitations, etc.)
  • Items that you need to Check later for possible action (magazines, flyers, etc)ยท
  • Toss junk mail immediately.
 2.           If you pick up your mail at a rural box the end of the driveway, keep a container in your car that is just for the mail.  A good job for an old purse, recyclable grocery bag, or those unused conference bags we seem to collect.

 3.           If you don't have time to immediately sort the mail, just put it in the same place each day until you make the time.  MandyUse a simple basket, decorative bowl, or any other container that is near the point of entry.  Stop the papers from entering your living area until you have the time to go through them.

 4.           Create a "mail action" area that you use each time you open the sorted mail.  This may be temporary such as using a tray on the lap while watching television, or permanent such as a desk or table.

 5.           Set aside time each day to go through the Action mail.  Put bills to be paid, items to calendar, papers needed action into separate folders, or other sorting system that works for you.  Calendar time to take action on the mail in your folders.

 6.           Provide a mail drop point for each member of your family.  This is where their personal mail goes.  Place these drop points in areas convenient for the family members.  If it works within their system, it's less likely to interfere with yours.

 7.           Designate a delivery point for the mail that needs to go out.  Keep this near the door where you leave the house so you won't forget to take it.

 8.           If you don't have a shredder, collect mail with sensitive personal information in a paper bag.  Take these bags to the local recycle/shredding company.  Shredding costs about $10 for three grocery bags full of paper.

 9.           If you have a large build up of mail right now, do a quick ACT sort (#1 above) and only deal with the Action mail.  Do not waste time on the informational flyers or things you "might want to read someday".

 10.      Magazines are cyclical.  The articles that you meant to read in last month's issue will come around again same time next year.  Toss issues that are two months old.   It is better use of your time to do an article Internet search if you are looking for something specific.
