TopGreetings ,

We uncovered the summer furniture last month, washed off the dust and spiders, filled the BBQ propane tanks, now we are ready for outdoor living!  That's what a little 90-degree weather will do to you.   When the weather went back to normal, my daughter Heather and I took a weekend to do a little Napa Valley wine tasting.  Nothing like a good BV Cab to get the creative juices flowing.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE - Get Organized in 2009

NEW - ORGANIZING CALENDAR FOR 2009

Each month I will share three things to do that will help you get organized in 2009.  You can choose to do one or more of my suggestions, or come up with your own.

May - Moving Outdoors

1.  Take inventory of outdoor sheds & storage areas
  • When the weather starts to turn nice, take an inventory of your outdoor storage areas.  Make a list of things that need to be repaired or replaced.  Schedule time to do the repairs.
  • Check for insect or rodent damage and take appropriate corrective action before things get worse.
  • If you have too much stuff to even open the door of your storage area, resolve to purge items you no longer use or need.  Give them away or sell them.  Set a time to do this when the weather is nice.
 2.  Inventory your recreation gear
  • Apply the same inventory, repair, replace or purge strategy to your recreational gear.
  • Pull everything outside, sort by function, purge out unnecessary or damaged equipment, and put in appropriate-sized labeled containers for easy access later

3.   Organize your travel plans  [Click here to see my personal travel list]

  •  If you like to travel, start a packing list for your travels.  This is easiest to do when created on a computer.  Use three columns:  What the item is (be specific); whom the item is for (i.e. you, spouse, kids, pet); and why you pack it (i.e. beach, air travel, car trips).  You can then sort the items by person so they can pack their own bag, or by trip type such as things you only take to the beach.  Print out a copy prior to packing.  Line through the items you do not need to include and check off the ones you pack.  Give the list to others so they can pack their own travel bags.
  • Create a travel folder for each trip.  Label the folder by destination and date.  The folder should contain any hotel, air, rental information, destination information, tickets, notes, etc.
  • At the end of travel add any comments or thoughts about the trip and keep the folder for future reference.  File by region, purpose, or alphabetically.
  • Update your packing list after each trip.

You can print this out as a full calendar page and put it in a binder for future reference.  Go to my website for the download version:

GOOD TIPS, READS & LEADS

AIRPORT TRAVEL ORGANIZATION Travel Wallet
When my daughter visited us she showed me her cute pink travel wallet. She keeps her papers in this wallet when she travels:  passport, license, flight boarding pass, lodging and car rental reservations, itinerary copy and dollars for tips.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree in this household.

CAR SEAT HOOKS
I highly recommend this car seat hook.  Mandy
Since my last newsletter I have been using this seat hook with great delight.  My purse no longer falls forward when I turn or brake.  I can hang my jacket on it for easy reach.  Trust me....you should get this!  Available on-line at LillianVernon.com
ORGANIZING EVENTS

HOME SHOW TIPHome Show Album

Auburn Home Show - May 15-17 at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn

This bi-annual home show is a great place to get ideas for organizing your home and yard.  Take your camera to snap shots of unique storage or display ideas.  Then get a photo album where you can keep the photos and copies of the vendor handouts for later reference.  You might consider several photo albums separated for home and yard ideas.  Be sure to take your tape measure and any special measurements you might need to make purchases at the show.
