Hello ,
The past few weeks have been hectic in my household; had some fun speaking engagements, husband had knee replacement surgery, and daughter visited from Texas. This is when it really pays to have your house in order and your papers organized. Sometimes when life gets too hectic I'd love to crawl into the kennel with Mandy and take it easy. At least her house is uncluttered!

PERSONAL CHALLENGE - Get Organized in 2009 |

NEW - ORGANIZING CALENDAR FOR 2009
Each month I will share three things to do that will help you get organized in 2009. You can choose to do one or more of my suggestions, or come up with your own.
March - Reinventing Spring Cleaning
1. Do a home (or office) clutter inventory
- Place a large garbage bag in each room. Fill the bag with as much stuff as you can that can be thrown away. Repeat with another bag for items to be donated.
- After you have cleared much of the unnecessary items, determine what needs to be cleaned or repaired. Put those items aside to clean or fix.
- Grab a note pad and walk through each room. In each room, list what clutter issues remain; circle the one that bothers you the most. Schedule a time when you can work on that area.
2. Set up a cleaning box
-
Gather all your cleaning supplies and assess what you actually use. Choose ones that work well, are multi-purpose, and support your environmental concerns. Toss the rest; carefully follow disposal instructions.
-
Separate dry from wet cleaning items (e.g. dusting rags from bathroom cleaners).
-
Put the wet cleaning items in a waterproof container such as a bucket with handle. Put the dry cleaning items in another container. Store these items in an area safe from small children and pets.
-
If you reduce your cleaning supplies to fewer, multi-purpose items, you may be able to put them all in a portable carryall with wheels. That way you can easily take your supplies with you from room to room as you clean.
3. Find the "Hidden Clutter" in dresser drawers, under beds, and on shelves
-
Go through the house and look for hidden clutter.
-
Choose at least one of these areas to clean and organize on a rainy day.
-
Repeat this exercise in October. See how many areas stayed clean.

GOOD TIPS, READS & LEADS |
|

Tax Organizing Tools
Use an accordion file (12 pockets) to sort and organize your tax papers. Label each pocket with the major tax categories you normally use when filing your taxes (income, taxes paid, interest earned, medical expenses, etc.). When you are done filing your taxes, file this away with a copy of your return and make another one to hold papers for the next tax year. One of my readers informed me that you can find these accordion files at WINCO in Rocklin CA for about $5. You might also find them at the WISE BUYS store in Roseville Square off Douglas Boulevard in Roseville.

SHRED - SHRED - SHRED - SHRED - SHRED
Now I know many of you take the time to shred your personal papers using a small desk-side shredder. Don't you wish you could dump it all at once and not worry about it? Well now you can. I have contracted with Absolute Secured Shredding Inc. of Fair Oaks to provide a secure shred bin at my home office for clients and friends. If you would like to feed my hungry bin you may do so at my home (any amount of papers, anytime for $10/month). Absolute Secure Shredding will come by my home each month and shred the contents on-site. Contact me if you are interest in sharing my bin. I might even provide coffee or a snack!
