TopHey , are you ready to start the new year off right?

Grand-dog DixieI've been spending time putting away holiday decorations after a week's visit from my daughter and grand-dog Dixie.  We had a crazy and wonderful time with friends and family.  Now it's back to reality.

I've been thinking about how I can best share my organizing expertise in simple and fun ways.  I'm going to try some new things this year and will share them in future newsletters.  Let me know what you think.

Here's to getting better organized in 2009,

PERSONAL CHALLENGE - Get Organized in 2009

NEW - ORGANIZING CALENDAR FOR 2009

Each month I will share three things to do that will help you get organized in 2009.  You can choose to do one or more of my suggestions, or come up with your own.

JANUARY - Start with a Plan

Purge and store away holiday decorations

- Use containers that will store neatly in the space you have.

- Sort like items with like items and label the containers where you can see the contents when stored away.

- Purge unused or broken decorations; really think about what you can reasonable bring out next holiday season.

Enter important dates and recurring events on your new calendar  (If you don't know the exact date, make note of the event on any empty space.)

- Enter birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, vacation, club meetings, and other annually recurring events.

- Note months for personal grooming dates; hair, facial, massage etc.

- Set months for annual medical, dental, vision appointments

- Schedule renewals for recurring health prescriptions on the same date each month

- Spread out car maintenance throughout the year (oil, services)

- Spread out home maintenance throughout the year (air conditioner, heating, windows/screens, carpet cleaning, pest control)

- Note pet maintenance due dates (vaccinations, heartworm, flea treatments)

- Note subscription renewals (newspapers, magazines, on-line services)

- Plan for "date night" with spouse, kids or friends - schedule your fun

Create a list of personal goals for this year

- Set no more than three reasonable goals to achieve this year (if you achieve all three, you can add more)

- Keep this list in a visible place and look at it every day

- Review your calendar each month to see if you are doing activities that support your goals

You can print this out in a full calendar page and put it in a binder for future reference:

Organizing can be fun, especially when you gather your friends for a "PICTURE YOURSELF ORGANIZED" HOME PARTY!  You and your guests will learn basic organizing principles from a Professional Organizer that can be applied to any area of the home or office.  In addition, everyone will receive a "Picture Yourself Organized" binder full of worksheets, tips, and valuable information.  As a bonus, the host may choose to have an area in the home organized at the party.

ShredSHRED - SHRED - SHRED - SHRED - SHRED
Now I know many of you take the time to shred your personal papers using a small desk-side shredder.  Don't you wish you could dump it all at once and not worry about it?  Well now you can.  I have contracted with Absolute Secured Shredding Inc. of Fair Oaks to provide a secure shred bin at my home office for clients and friends.  If you would like to feed my hungry bin you may do so at my home (any amount of papers, anytime).    Absolute Secure Shredding will come by my home each month and shred the contents on-site.  Contact me if you are interest in sharing my bin.  I might even provide coffee or a snack!

If you are ready to start on an organizing project, give me a call.  My initial consultation is always free and allows us to discuss a plan that might work for you.
