TopA beautiful Fall greeting to

Tailgate BBQI love October.  The weather is perfect with cool mornings and evenings, and just the right amount of warmth during the day.  I like to travel in October.  My husband and I spent a week in North Carolina where we attended the Notre Dame vs. Univ. of N.C. football game, ate BBQ, grits and hushpuppies, and walked the beach along the Outer Banks.  Delightful, y'all.

Kings BBQ

October also signals the start of NBA basketball and many of you know what a Sacramento KINGS fan I am.  I was excited to spend quality time with Mikki Moore and Sheldon Williams at a recent season ticket holder BBQ....yummy.  (Yes, they really are that tall.)

OK, so I've had my October fix.  Now back to focusing on the garage project....

TIPS & TRICKS
Garage Sales
This is a good time of year to plan a garage sale.  You don't even need to hold it at your home.  Look at other options that provide instant buyers like the Auburn Grange Hall (530-885-3974), Denio's Roseville Auction, and be sure to check Sierra College in late spring for their annual summer giant yard and craft sale.

Need help in planning a sale?  Try this link provided by the TV show "Clean House".   Or go to this site for tips from experienced yard sellers:  Tipz Time

Here are some of my best tips
Make a decision before the sale on what will happen with what's left over.  Contact a charity to pick up unsold items the day after your sale.

Keep it simple.  Group items on tables and post a sign "anything on this table for $1" (or other price).  Keep pricing in 25¢ increments to simplify making change.

Pin clothing sets together so they don't get separated.

Have a mirror handy for clothing shoppers, an extension cord for electric items, and original instruction manuals if available.

Set up a children's play/color area so parents can shop without distraction.

Place larger and more attractive items near the front where they are sure to catch the eye of people driving by.

Don't want to bother with a yard sale?
Contact 1-800-GOT-JUNK to remove unwanted items from your property.  You will pay them to do this, but they will do all the moving out of your yard/house, and they take most of it to recycling facilities.  You don't have to lift a finger, except to point the way.

1-800-Got-JunkI met a local owner (Brent Jameson) at our NAPO-Sacramento Vendor Expo last week.  Great people...I was very impressed.  If you are thinking about calling for this service, let me know...I have discount coupons I'll send you.

PERSONAL CHALLENGE
Oh, remember that garage project...
Remember my garage project I started last month?  1-800-Got-Junk
Well I have to confess that I let it slide while I enjoyed the trip to North Carolina.  However, I did do some sorting and look what I found.  Now really, how many drill bits can one person actually use?  Does this sound familiar?  It is not uncommon to start sorting your project area and find you have "millions" of duplicates.  The challenge is to decide what is enough.

Set limits
Whether it's tools, collectibles, clothes, photos, or Post-its (and you know who you are!), set a limit on a quantity that's reasonable before you put things back.

Donate extras
What to do with the extras?  Sell them at a yard sale, or donate them to agencies that can really benefit from your excess.

Read this plea I just received...
"We met the other day at the Kases 4 Kids collection.  I also work with Placer Foothills Women's Club,  we make cups for cancer patients and gift bags for children with cancer.  My needs are cups and saucers or mugs, no wording, no cracks or chips and beanie baby's.  If you could put me in your news letter that would be wonderful, as we are limited on funds."
                                  Thank You, Pat Ryan

There are many worthwhile charities in our community who are delighted to take your clutter and put it to good use.

Have extra suitcases laying around?
This weekend the Auburn Kiwanis sponsored a "Kases 4 Kids" project.  They collected over 100 gently used suitcases for the local foster children.  Now this is a great way to get rid of your duplicates.  They will accept suitcases any time.  Contact Pat Ryan at (530) 367-2150 or Pat Thomas at (530) 888-0784 for more information.

GOOD READS & LEADS
Support the Economy
The current economy has many businesses offering discounts like crazy.  Take advantage of these offers only if they support your organizing efforts.  Be cautious not to add more stuff to your life unless it serves a purpose. Check out Linens 'n Things for storage options on sale - they are closing doors at end of year.

Flash Drive Sale
Scan the October 26th STAPLES ad for a 4GB flash drive for only $17.99.  This provides a ton of memory and will easily hold many of your photos, back-up files, contact lists, etc. for safe keeping.  I keep one in my bank safe deposit box containing my backed-up critical files and photos.
