Dear
I try to spend a good deal of July at my summer cabin at Big Bend; a grateful reprieve from the Sacramento Valley heat. I wish, however, I could invent something that would rid the sky of smoke. Wouldn't that be amazing? Here I am with my black lab "Olive", getting away from the smoke and back into the mountains.
This peaceful place allows me time to reflect on my life and business goals and what I can do to show my clients that good organization is the bridge from stress to serenity.

Years ago I used to own a residential home cleaning business. I learned by trial and error how to clean effectively and efficiently. I discovered that it makes a huge difference if you use the right cleaner with the right method. This month I am sharing with you my Ten Tips for Efficient Home Cleaning. You can also see what I keep in my personal home cleaning box.

Top Two Challenges
Thank you to everyone who responded with your two most challenging organizing projects (papers and garages came out on top!) I'll provide you with ideas for these challenges in future newsletters.
To Clean or De-Clutter
Many times we want to "clean" the garage, the office, or the kitchen to make our life easier. What we discover is that unless we de-clutter first, we never really make any headway. Next time you decide to "clean" the garage (or any area of your home/office), start with a small area like a shelf unit or a cupboard. Proceed like this:
- Remove all the items from the unit
- Sort them by function or usage
- Toss or give away what is outdated, broken, or no longer needed
- Now you can clean the shelves and wipe down the items
- Based on what you have left over, decide where you will put your things according to frequency of use. Keep like with like; use clear storage containers
- Label your containers or shelves
- Enjoy this area, then move on to another small area the next time

One of my favorite cleaning reference books is "How To Clean Practically Anything", by Consumer Reports Publishers. I've referred to it for over 20 years. This little book makes a great wedding shower or off-to-college gift.

Home and Garden Show (Sacramento)
One of the premier Home & Garden Shows is coming to the Sacramento Convention Center on July 25-27. Lee Mahla is a Professional Organizer who will be presenting a workshop on "Tackling Your Paper Clutter".
Home and Garden Shows are a great way to find vendors who have the right products for your organizing challenges. Take your camera to snap photos of good ideas you can use at home.
Also pack some return address labels for completing free giveaway cards at vendor booths.
