Speaking in
YERINGTON, NEVADA
On March 8th I spent the morning with the amazing women of Soroptimist Int'l of Yerington NV. They learned how to organize like the pro's and saw me organize my underwear drawer (some things better left unsaid!)

Greetings!
This month has me spending time in my basement deciding what to do with all the family "heirlooms" that have gathered there over the years. I finally realized that I am a chronic keeper of the past and it is preventing me from living in the present. While the weather is getting warmer and I can move things out into the sunshine, I feel better about going through the memories and organizing those that remain into a system that honors their sentiment. Photos, memories, kid's artwork, dishes, will all find new homes over the next few months. That is my spring cleaning mission....what is yours?

Unusual Containers
Here is a great idea for storing craft items, ribbons, scarves or gloves, extension cords, or other small items. Collect your items in a ZipLoc bag. Secure the bag with a hanger made for pants and hang above your work area, in the closet, or other storage area to keep these items in easy reach. Think of all the ways you can use this idea! So cool. |

Organizing The Family Memories
This is probably one of the most common challenges I hear from my clients: "I want to complete my scrapbooking projects, but I just can't get organized." I first ask whether or not the value of the finished projects are worth the effort and stress. Sometimes we place expectations upon ourselves that are unrealistic. However, if you are determined to finish those albums, take it in small steps. Consider these steps outlined in the linked article from On-Line Organizing.com:

Are you faced with the challenge of reducing the amount of family "treasures" that accumulate in your house? Perhaps you have to move parents into a smaller home and need to distribute the family things. I've found this great book that might help you make some of those difficult decisions. It provides worksheets that help family members clarify their wants and wishes. If you don't think you need it now, you probably will need it some time in the future. It's worth the small investment.

Here's a fun way to pass on your books
Do you tend to keep books you've read (or haven't read) because you couldn't stand throwing them away? Would you like to know that someone else enjoyed your book and passed it on to others?
This website allows you to register your book on-line and receive a unique ID number for that book. You are then encouraged to "set the book free", leaving it in a public place. The ID number you provide inside allows new readers to register the book they've found. You receive an email telling you where the book has traveled. Makes giving up something an exciting and fun experience. |
