empowering you to make healthy habits last.

Greetings! Bok Choy

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are now in full swing with the holiday season. This time of year reminds us to be grateful for all the joys in our life. Wouldn't it serve us well if we remembered to be grateful and appreciative year round and not just during holiday season? Its been said that if everynight before you go to bed, you say one thing you are grateful for you will be a happier, healthier person. I challenge you this month to start this daily habit. Whether you write it down, tell it to a loved one or just say it out loud, ask yourself what am I grateful for today?

It's such a pleasure to help those closest to us become happier and healthier.  Please forward this e-newsletter to friends, family members or colleagues who might be interested and inspired by it.

Does Your Healthy Lifestyle Get Completely Derailed Over The Holidays?

The average American gains between 5 and 8 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas. While the holiday season is known for getting together with family and celebrating holiday traditions, the truth is holiday's are about eating, eating and more eating. With so many delicious, unhealthy foods around it can be difficult to stay on track. So, how are your holiday habits? Why not approach holiday eating differently this year?

Here are 8 solutions that will keep you on track without making you feel deprived.

Before The Party:

Solution #1: Decide on your game plan ahead of time.

Solution #2: Exercise. Even if it's for 30 minutes, your body will thank you and so will your mind.

Solution#3: Do not skip meals.
If you skip meals in an attempt to save calories you can leave your body in a state of starvation.  If you arrive at a party hungry you are likely to eat even more. Instead, eat healthy balanced meals during the day so your body doesn't crave so much food.

At The Party:

Solution #4: Fill up half your plate with veggies. The veggies will help to fill you up and provide nourishment. Greens will help to detoxify

Solution #5: Enjoy your favorite foods. Because this time of year comes around only once, we look forward to having our favorite foods. To avoid overeating, don't deny yourself. If you want to try everything, just take small portions.

Solution #6: Eat mindfully. Concentrate on chewing your foods to really enjoy what is on your plate. Often during party's it is easy to eat, drink and talk at the same time. Try to sit down, eat and then socialize. You may find that you will focus less on eating and have more fun socializing too.

After The Party:

Solution #7: Evaluate how your plan worked. If it didn't go well, figure out what you can do and change for the next party

Solution #8: Get outside and walk. Even if you only walk around the block, getting in a little exercise will help with your digestion and your sleep.

"Since completing the program, I have become more aware of which food my body needs. I shop seasonally and do my best whenever I can to buy organic. I don't think of food as calories any more, but instead nutrients. I no longer obsess about calories and weight and instead I think about what my body needs. I am completely conscious of what I put in my body and how it affects my every day life in terms of immunity, exercise, sleep and moods"

Favorite recipe you now incorporate into your diet?
"There are so many recipes that I like, but the one that I truly incorporate into my daily diet is the breakfast quinoa and because I like to have something sweet after dinner, I always have some brown rice pudding stored in the fridge"
