Monday Morning Marketing Tip
Rob Eagar's Monday Morning Marketing Tip
is written to help authors, publishers, and organizations
spread their message like wildfire.

As we observe Memorial Day, consider those who gave their lives
to preserve our freedom in America.

This week's focus:
Social Networking Rule #1 - Social networks are "social," not commercial. Therefore, users want to engage with their friends without corporate or advertising interference. Promoting books or products to a social network is like disrupting a meaningful church service with advertisements to sell Bibles. The pitch is in bad taste and out of context, which only makes the congregation mad and distrustful.

Fortunately, there are ways that authors, publishers, and organizations can influence social networks in an appropriate manner. Create value-laden, word-of-mouth tools that are easy to spread online, such as free resources, sample chapters, coupons, contests, viral videos, etc. Give users the tools they need to look like a hero in the social networks where they participate. They'll do the marketing for you.
