Menopause & Yin deficiency

Greetings!

Kamila & Anthony Kingston
We are rapidly approaching the silly season. It has been a hectic few months at White Lotus.

Anthony has just made a DVD which will be available towards the end of next month to purchase online from our website store. The Dvd has been made due to overwhelming  request  from our clients.

The dvd will focus on the best techniques to enhance health and beauty simultaneously from a traditional chinese medicine perspective. All of the tools in the Anti Ageing starter kit will be demonstrated, which we recommend for home use to induct collagen. We are planning on releasing more instructional Dvds in the near future.

As always we wish you all the best for the month to come.

The Health benefits of Qi Gong

Many of you would have heard of Qi Gong (pronounced chee gong). Qi Gong is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine consisting of hands on healing and also exercises to build energy in the body. In TCM all diseases are due to a lack of Qi  (lifeforce energy) or poor circulation of Qi, therefore Qi Gong is the most powerful health exercises you can do yourself.

Qi Gong has been practiced for thousands of years in China for its amazing health benefits. Many hospitals in China have a Qi Gong department where Qi Gong therapy is given to people with serious illnesses like cancer.

In China when people get really unwell Qi Gong is the therapy many people turn to. Millions of people in China practice Qi Gong therapy daily to prevent illness and keep their energy levels high. It is the most potent Anti Ageing therapy that one could practice in conjunction with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

There was a recent clinical trial conducted on Chronic Fatigue sufferers that showed significant benefits. The group was given Qi Gong exercises to be practiced daily. After 6 months of the trial the group showed significant improvement in all aspects of their health (energy levels, sleep, appetite etc), which backs up many other similar studies conducted on Qi Gong.

Qi Gong therapy is one of the best forms of therapy for anyone who is suffering from an autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue. It is normally recommended as a course of treatment in itself and is used extensively in China to treat cancer.

Qi Gong is just a series of movements like a movement meditation that helps your body build up essential energy that is being depleted on a daily basis. Most people who practice Qi Gong look way younger than their years because of the increased internal organ energy they have.

There is a good Qi Gong school in Brisbane run by Matt De Boer.
He is a student of Yuan Tze- a very famous Qi gong master from china,
who has the highest cure rate for cancer patients out of all of the Qi Gong masters. Yuan Tze lives in New Zealand now www.yuantzecentre.co.nz

Matt's classes run at 6.00-7.00pm at Kangaroo Point on a monday
Yungaba, 120 Main St Kangaroo Pt.
and 8am-9am on Fridays in west end
Matt also routinely holds workshops on a Saturday morning running through the main Qi Gong postures.

Menopause and Yin Deficiency

Most western women experience massive changes during menopause on many levels. It is interesting to note that hot flushes are a rare occurrence in China.

Hot flushes are basically caused by a fundamental imbalance of Yin and Yang energies in the body. The term is called Yin deficiency. The reason that the Chinese rarely suffer from this is mainly due to their practice of Qi gong which regulates the yin and yang energies of the body, their diet (soy based diets are yin in nature) and their life long habit of taking Chinese herbal medicine when they are healthy to remain healthy and prevent imbalances from occurring.

It does take time for your body to adjust to lower levels of estrogen but it can be a better transition if you eat yin foods and take some herbal medicine to support the body. In really severe cases you can have an imbalance of both yin and yang particularly if you have had a chronic illness, this is definitely best treated with strong herbal medicine and Qi Gong therapy.

In the west we eat Yang based foods (hot in nature) most of our lives which is why the imbalance is so strong. By the time you hit menopause most of the Yin of the body has been depleted. Yang foods, are hot, spicy, processed refined grains/junk foods, alcohol, coffee, chocolate, white sugar, greasy/deep fried foods, dairy foods. We also have stressful lifestyles which directly depletes the internal organs from a TCM perspective, causing illness and disease.

Yin Foods are fruits, vegetables, wholegrain foods (wholegrain wheat as opposed to white flour), green tea, legumes etc.Yin relates to body fluids and is cooling, nourishing in nature.

A lack of Yin in the body manifests as general menopausal symptoms, insomnia, hot flushes, mood swings, thirst, hunger, extremely dry skin, weak nails etc People that have a lack of yin in the body also develop  wrinkles, redness, hair loss or thinning, pigmentation on their skin over time and  and can often develop problems with their eyes.

If you want to increase your Yin the best way is to eat more plant based foods and wholefood grains.  Drink good quality green tea every day , and good quality water.Avoid spicy foods and stay away from deep fried, alcohol, processed foods as much as possible.  Go to bed before 10pm and have lots of time out for yourself. Avoid any excercises that cause you to sweat excessively such as jogging or bikram yoga. Your body and skin will thank you in the long run.

It is also beneficial to take herbal medicine on an ongoing basis as a maintenance to keep the bodies energy in balance and prevent the yin from depleting.

Qi Gong is a fantastic practice to bring about rapid balance to the body if you are suffering from change of life symptoms and should be practiced daily.
Sincerely,

 Kamila & Anthony Kingston
