The properties of Jade on the skin

Many people ask us why it is we use Jade with all of our facial treatments.
Traditionally in ancient china they always used Jade on the skin for its remarkable healing properties.

Jade was always used by wealthy women of China due to its price and value making it prohibitive for poorer people.
Jade has always been very highly prized in China and still is today (it is unusual not to see a Chinese person wearing a Jade bracelet or necklace.)

Jade was the number one stone in ancient china it was more valuable than gold and was a sign of wealth and power. It also was used extensively for healing on the skin because of its cooling properties. Jade feels very cold and soothing on the skin which actually closes and tightens the pores of the skin.

It also tightens the skin and evens out uneven skin tone. Its smooth the surface and drains excess fluids out of the skin. The Jade energizes the yin energies of the body and activates the acupuncture channels and meridians. After using Jade on the skin it always gives the complexion a very healthy glow and tingling sensation. By using it with Gua Sha it strengthens the treatment on the face and internal organs.

Jade is also said to bring wealth, luck and great relationships and is said to activate the heart charka. The Chinese prefer the pale green (almost white) jade, where as most westerners prefer the Dark Green version of Jade which the Chinese consider to be of lesser value.

It is also said that Jade helps you to dream more and recall them easily when you awake when placed under your pillow. Finally Jade helps your spirit or soul in Chinese thinking. It helps you be happy, calm, develop wisdom, intuition and love. It is not hard to see why Jade is so highly regarded in Chinese Culture.

Kamila & Anthony KingstonDo you have sparkling Peach Luck?

The colour of your complexion indicates how healthy you are internally (specifically the quality of blood and internal organ energy).Observing the complexion was first mentioned in the Yellow Emperors classic of internal medicine which was written 2500 years ago. The complexion has always been used to access the health of the patient along with pulse and tongue diagnosis.

It was widely acknowledged that specific colours on the face pertained to internal organ disharmonies which affected the emotional/spiritual aspect of the individual as well as specific physical illnesses and syndromes.
A glowing complexion has always been a sign of beauty and good health in many different cultures. When the complexion is radiant it means that the internal organs are strong and blood is in abundance in the face.

The Chinese have a name for this kind of complexion Sparkling Peach luck. Many celebrities naturally have in abundance this type of complexion and it means they are very wealthy, healthy and successful  people. When your face is like this good luck always comes to you. You know when you look at someone and they have that twinkle in their eye and their face is radiant, when they smile it seems to light up their heart and everyone else around them- That is sparkling peach luck in the west we say a complexion of peaches and cream. People are drawn like moths to a flame to someone that has this trait and they are always winners in more ways than one.
(Cosmetic company's make a fortune worldwide from individuals trying and imitate this natural state of health, the only problem is that it still does not infuse your eyes or smile with that irresistible shine.)

The complexion reflects the shen (or soul) in Ancient Chinese Medical thought. If the spirit is strong and happy they are likely to have sparkling peach luck. The heart houses the soul and for the heart to be healthy it needs to have a plentiful supply of Qi (energy) and Blood. If it does then this is seen on the face, personality and emotional state of the person.

As a direct contrast think of someone who is sickly, what springs to mind? Pale, yellow, green or dark complexion, dull eyes, skin that lacks lustre and sheen, uneven skin surface- just to name a few.
You may even notice when you look at people that you can clearly see a problem on specific areas of their face .Whenever there is any difference on the skin this represents an internal organ problem.

People with very pale skin are called blood deficient in Chinese medicine as there is a severe lack of blood in the body they almost look like vampires; anemic people often have this complexion or people who have been chronically sick. They also very often suffer from depression/insomnia because there is not enough blood to nourish the soul.

Traditionally the complexion is always best treated with Chinese Herbal Medicine; acupuncture is beneficial at initially circulating the energy to the face but herbal medicine better addresses the underlying issues. Gua Sha is also used regularly to ensure that the energy is circulating smoothly to the face and internal organs of the body and prevent future imbalances as is qi gong.

Next time you flick through women's day and see celebrity smiles you will understand why people are so attracted to them in more ways than one. Beauty and health have always gone hand in hand. Traditionally the Chinese system of medicine extends this one step further to your spiritual state. When your complexion is bright and healthy, you are a very happy and healthy person. Areas on your face that are displaying an imbalance literally do affect they way you feel and react to the world as well as your energy levels. People that genuinely smile and laugh all the time are very happy people and their enthusiasm for life is intoxicating by treating the complexion you really are helping your health and spiritual wellbeing
