To Supplement or not to Supplement???
Another very common question is whether supplements help or not. In short if you have a dietary insufficiency it is essential that you supplement. Otherwise we generally do not advise it unless it is a completely natural wholefood product such as Spirulina, Chorella, Barley Grass etc.

Multivitamins have come a long way, scientists are getting better at creating product that can be easily absorbed by the body and that contain the other trace elements needed to aid absorption. At the end of the day though they are still largely synthetically produced and are often recognised by the body as such. By taking a whole food such as spirulina your body can usually more rapidly absorb and assimilate the nutrients.

Many of our clients have heard this before but it bears repeating it is not how many nutrients you consume but how many you absorb which counts. For this reason the form the nutrition takes can become very important.
If you are unsure which supplements will suit you it is best to have them tested by a kinesiologist. They can tell you whether it will be strengthening or weakening to your body.

Many people supplement unnecessarily, which actually creates more harm than good.
If you want to get all of your supplements tested to find out whether they are actually benefiting you book a Kinesiology appointment and bring all of your supplements along to be tested. Kinesiology can also test for any mineral/nutrition deficiencies so that you know what you should be taking.

Also be aware what fillers are being included in your supplements. The pharmaceutical industry calls these fillers diluents and can include a range of things such as lactose, starch, sucrose, mannitol and dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate to name a few and these can cause allergies in some people. They may also contain a range of dyes and other ingredients designed to make the tablet attractive. Not all of these substances are beneficial to your health

This is one of the reasons that White Lotus manufactures our own herbal medicine capsules, using our own traditional formulas of using dried raw (vegan friendly) herbs with no other ingredients added. Most herbal medicines on the market now are synthetic derivatives, which do not interact with the body in the same way as traditional herbs.

Kamila & Anthony KingstonWindy Weather= Dry Skin!

August is known as the windy season in Brisbane. Wind is known as the spearhead of 100 evils Chinese Medicine because it can cause so many illnesses.

Where possible It is best to stay out of the wind to protect your health particularly if you are partial to breathing problems and allergies. If it is not possible it is wise to cover the back of your neck, as the Chinese believe many illnesses enter through this area. This corresponds to common advice many of us received from our parents when we were young.

The wind can stir up sinus problems and dry and itchy skin conditions to name a few. Sinus trouble has an obvious affect on the facial appearance. Puffiness and swelling under the eyes are common. Long-term sinus problems can also lead to the skin below the eyes becoming paler than surrounding skin due to restricted blood flow. It can also lead to dry skin around the nose and above the nose for the same reasons.

Foods grown in the season often contain nutrients that help our bodies deal with the current weather conditions. By buying local organic food you can be sure you are buying food which has the optimal ingredients for your body at this time.

If you do succumb to a cold or allergies. There are many fabulous herbal formulas that are available to help clear up colds and flu's, allergies, dry skin, itchiness and allergies. Make sure any formula you are taking is addressing the underlying cause. Many products only provide superficial relief or worse are combined with pharmaceuticals, which mask inactive herbs. If in doubt consult a recommended herbalist.

Acupuncture and cupping are very effective in addressing dry cracked skin. Winter is governed by the element of Water or the Kidney Meridian in Chinese Medicine. If your Kidney meridian is weaker you will be much more prone to dry skin during Winter.

The kidney energy also weakens with age, which is why older women complain of having drier skin than in their youth. By taking kidney tonics during this season you can not only strengthen the kidney energy (and make your skin softer and retain more moisture for further wrinkle prevention) but also the vital energy of the body. Winter is the optimal time to take tonics and increase the energy levels of the body.

The stronger your internal organs are the less imbalances you have on your face and the younger you look or your age!!!!
