2007 Mountford Estate Pinot Noir The story behind Mountford is one of blind passion. Mountford's exceptional winemaker who goes by the name C.P. was born in Taiwan, where he lost his sight due to carcinoma of the retina at the age of two. In the 80s at age 13 he and his family migrated to New Zealand. Speaking five languages; English, Mandarin, Taiwanese, French and German, C.P. also achieved a degree in mathematics from the University of Canterbury and a degree in Wine Science from Lincoln University. With his photographic memory and amazing ability to recall wines from all over the world, C.P. has used his highly developed palate and sense of smell to craft a range of sensational wines. We have two incredible whites from Mountford too: Riesling & Pinot Gris.
Mountford Estate Pinot Noir is hand-made at a boutique vineyard and winery set on a hillside in a stunning park-like environment in the Waipara region, of North Canterbury, New Zealand. We believe it is one of the best, most balanced, complex, and elegant Pinot Noirs we have ever tasted. Its color is inky red with pencil thin ruby hue. It has strong but fine tannins, with rich oily fruit weight, balanced by zingy acidity. Flavors are still primary with fresh plum cherry fruit dominating. This wine will reward those who have the patience to cellar, but it is great today too.
