2005 Domaine Denis Pere Savigny-Les Beaune
As much as we love to talk about all of the World's best wines, we tend to shy away from what is many wine enthusiasts' Mecca of the World's greatest wines; Burgundy. That is because we have always considered Burgundy to be a category where the good stuff starts at $60-100. Finally, we have a relatively affordable option that reveals the greatness of the World's most prized Pinot Noir.
Domaine Denis Pere & Fils was started in 1940 by Raoul Denis who was a winemaker for the prestigious Hospices de Beaune. This 2005 Savigny-Les-Beaune is from one of Burgundy's best vintages ever, and it reflects that with layers of perfectly ripe cherries, raspberries, violets, and super fine tannins that preserve the fruit and lengthen the elegant finish. Enjoy it by itself, serve it with brie, roasted chicken and fish, or it is perfect for beef bourguignon. Do yourself a favor and give this wine a try if you have ever been curious.
