Hi Everyone!

Well the picture above kind of says it all right now...I am in a state of insanity with the Bodega Festival in two weeks, and the Market as well. Being the first year I am running both at once has given me a bit of a frenetic feeling (understatement). I told my boyfriend my head was going to explode...He said I'd better clean it up afterwards...Glad he has a sense of humor!

Because of this I am going to produce a teeny newsletter this week, and no newsletter two weeks from now. The next one will come out September 4th. I know all if you understand, and in the meantime peruse old ones and send me great ideas for the next installment!

RECIPES FOR THIS ISSUE

I am reprinting a recipe from my website which is what we need right now...something we can do with our overabundance of zucchini...

ITALIAN STUFFED ZUCHINNI

Ingredients
1 zucchini about 12 inches long, or 6 medium ones
spray olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup chopped mushrooms
2 tablespoons dry white wine
1 pound ground Italian seasoned ground turkey (or to make a vegetarian version use Morningstar Farms Crumbles)
2 diced tomatoes
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
 Directions
1 Cut zucchini in half lengthwise. Scoop out insides, leaving shells about 1/4 inch thick. Reserve about half of the insides.

2 Heat olive oil spray in a skillet on medium high heat. Sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add mushrooms and reserved zucchini insides, and sauté another 2 minutes.

3 In a separate skillet heat spray olive oil on medium high heat. Add the ground turkey. Lightly brown the turkey, stirring only occasionally. After the turkey browns on one side, stir it so that it has a chance to brown on other sides. Cook until the ground turkey is lightly browned, about 6 minutes. Stir in the onion and mushroom mixture from the other pan. Add the wine. Stir in tomato, basil and rosemary and cook 1 minute longer. Drain any excess fat. Remove mixture from heat and set it aside.

4 When mixture has cooled, add cheese, egg, salt and pepper. Fill zucchini shells with mixture. Fill a baking pan with 1/4 inch of water. Place filled zucchini halves in pan and bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes, until golden brown. Remove zucchini from pan and serve while hot.

Product Recommendation

Colleen in the Santa Rosa meeting recommended these stuffed chicken breasts. She says they come raw and you bake them so they do not have that rubbery pre-cooked frozen chicken texture and taste. I did the math on 2 different types of them and one came out to 6 pts and one to 7 pts each. They look delicious!

Bodega Seafood Art & Wine Festival

bodega graphic

My other wonderful event,

the Bodega Seafood, Art & Wine Festival,

will be held on August 27 & 28 on the gorgeous Watts Ranch, in the quaint village of Bodega. This is NOT Bodega Bay, as many people think, but the place made famous by the filming of Hitchcock's classic, "The Birds".

This is my big event! Its a really really fun party...and you are all invited! If you have never been, imagine a wide open pasture, surrounded by rolling hills, enclosed by a bank of willows to the west (a wonderful wind block!). Lots of tenting for shade, and haybales as well as tables and chairs for seating.

wine stage

There are 3 stages. As you enter you will notice a stage to your right, as well as 2 large tents. That stage sits outside the Wine and Microbrewed Beer Tasting, and there we have smaller bands playing anything from gypsy jazz to Peruvian flute.

The other smaller stage is to the outside of the Artist Tent, and that is where or non-musical acts do their thing. Captain Jack Spareribs is unabashedly hilarious, and Karen Quest doing her cowgirl tricks is clever and unusual. Both are well worth seeing.

p&j dancers

And then our Main Stage is past all the food and covered eating area, and has some wonderful acts, as well as a large dance floor.

The eating area is being expanded this year: some different and wonderful food, and different layout for easier traffic flow. Our food selection is a variety of ethnic options, with an emphasis on seafood (there's lots of meat and vegetarian too!), but all different types of fare. Yes, there is deep-fried and pizza, but also lots of healthy options, like Johnny Garlic's salmon, or BBQ oysters (did you know oysters are 6 for 1 points plus??...the BBQ sauce adds a point...such a deal!), salads, ceviches...the list goes on. Go on our website to get the full story.

If you love wines and beers you cannot go wrong here. We have 30+ wineries and 10 microbreweries participating in a fabulous tasting, as well as wines and beers sold by the glass.

Many of you know I used to be a craftsperson, so I have a special affinity for the artists who do our festival...and artists they are! The quality of this festival is not what you would expect out on a rural ranch. This is the type of art and fine craft you find in San Francisco events. We have exhibitors from all over the state and the country. This does not mean we have only high-end. The range in price and diversity here makes this a unique event. Some of our 80 plus exhibitors are featured on our website artist page.

And a portion of the proceeds goes to two wonderful organizations...Stewards of the Coast & Redwoods, the non-profit working in conjunction with the California State Parks in the Russian River Region, and the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department.

We will also have a booth (6H) at the August 17th Wednesday Night Market and will be selling tickets for the discounted price there! Cash or check only.

Check the website for more information and hope to see you there!
