Hi Everyone!
I had no idea what I would write this week...I have been working like a crazy woman so had not really thought about it. But in a meeting yesterday there was one of those ahas you just have to share.
The topic was planning and packing food to take with you when you travel, even just to work and back. In one of my meetings I pointed out that every time we pack a sandwich, or fruit, string cheese, something other than pulling into the fast food joint we are saying "yes" to healthy eating and "no" to food addictions.
One of my members got upset at this. She said she had lost a lot of weight and decided to go have a burger, fries and a shake at In & Out. She said it was the first time in 2 years and she enjoyed every bite of it. She then said she has her Ben & Jerrys once a month. She felt the gift of WW was the ability to eat these foods and not deny ourselves, and that I should not make these foods bad.
I clarified for her that WW does say you can have these foods, and that is why it works. I do not consider any food bad. But I do consider being addicted to unhealthy foods as being counter-productive to losing and maintaining weight. I pointed out that she is no longer addicted to these foods. She can now learn to have a healthy relationship with them. Many of us are not anywhere near that zone.
If we do not pack and plan and figure out ways to eat that do not involve the fast food restaurants, 7-11s and the like, we keep ourselves in an addictive relationship with those foods. Once we begin to think before we leave the house, "what will I eat at work today? What will I eat at 4pm when I get hungry?" and make a plan for this, that's when we can begin to make other choices. But how many of us, in a fit of starvation at 4:30, go to the vending machine in the office and buy that favorite candy bar or bag of chips? Or pull into the drive-through on the way home because there is nothing cooked, and nothing to snack on until something is cooked.
This week give some thought to the idea of being more like a Boy Scout...prepared! Own this journey you are on and plan out your meals, pack a cooler in your car, or figure out beforehand where you will eat and how much it will cost you (in points, of course).
See you in the meeting room! |

A TRAGIC DEMISE...

I am reprinting a very funny piece sent to me by my cousin last year...
Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Dough boy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.
Dough boy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, The California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.
Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.
The funeral was held at 350 for about 20 minutes.
If this made you smile for even a brief second, please rise to the occasion and take time to pass it on and share that smile with someone else who may be having a crumby day and kneads it. |

17th annual
Bodega Seafood Art & Wine Festival

My other wonderful event,
the Bodega Seafood, Art & Wine Festival,
will be held on August 27 & 28 on the gorgeous Watts Ranch, in the quaint village of Bodega.
I am so excited about the line-up this year for entertainment, including the fantastic PRIDE & JOY, the VOLKER STRIFLER BAND, and the fantastic CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS! We are also bringing back the incomparable CAPTAIN JACK SPARERIBS and have added another completely unique performer for all ages:
KAREN QUEST, COWGIRL TRICKS.
The Kid's Area has expanded to include a painting garden and face painter, with our wonderful jumps and slides.
Food, wines and beers are several other components of this festival and the food lineup this year has something for everyone! The website has the initial line-up but more are coming in as I write. Wines and beers will be posted in July.
We have a gorgeous craft market, with artists coming from all over the US, and I am working on putting together a food product/sampling tent! Yum!
Check the website for more information and hope to see you there!
