 Hi Everyone!

I had written something completely different for this section when I got an email from Constant Contact, the newsletter service I use to create what you're reading. They informed me that I am a Constant Contact All Star! I had no idea if this was a good thing, and suspected some advertising ploy. But in fact, they sent me the statistics of how many people open my emails vs other companies, and I am more than double, in most cases!  Over 50% open these (and there are upwards of 600 of you receiving this!), and I didn't think that was all that spectacular until I saw that none of the others listed were over 22%, and most were in the teens. I was stunned and amazed!

So I guess I'm doing something right...but so much of what I put in here is from you. You send me ideas and recipes, before and after pictures (see below for amazing ones!), quotes, videos and all sorts of things that end up in here.

So I thank all of you, because I feel like we have created a little on-line community, and I get to share all of your stuff with the whole gang. And more join every week.

So welcome people who are reading this for the first time. All of you are my inspiration, so send anything you think WW members might like. My perameters for recipes is that they have no processed, artificial ingredients or sweetners. Videos need to be interesting, ideally weight or health related, or just plain fun. No advertising, please. But before and afters (or before and now, if you aren't quite there yet), and...well, use your imagination.

Thank you all so much!!

MEETING TOPICS:
WEEKS OF
May 30 & June 6, 2010

woman eating spaghetti
The week of May 30th the topic is
When Hunger Comes Calling

We talk frequently about "head hunger". In other words  an emotional reaction which makes us feel hungry. But sometimes we are really hungry. Is this a good thing? Or do we want to avoid it, and if so how can we?

Keeping Track
is the topic for the week of
June 6th.

Some of us are dilligent trackers, some are moderate in their tracking, and some do not do it at all yet seem to be successful. What works (or doesn't) for you? Let's share ideas and tips for paying attention to what goes into our mouths.
RECIPES FOR THIS ISSUE
Sharon in the Santa Rosa Thursday meeting told us all the other day about one of her favorite breakfasts, Baked Oatmeal. It sounded so intriguing I asked her to send it to share with all of you. I have modified it slightly (added the raisins and changed the sweetener), and it sounds yummy.

And another great breakfast is a Frittata. With guests visiting over the holiday, or just as a great weekend brunch treat, try this recipe!

DON'T FORGET!
SANTA ROSA MEMBERS!!!
NEW LOCATION!!

woman with balloons

Those of you attending meetings at Santa Rosa Center on Farmers Lanes, hold onto your hats (balloons?)...'cause we're moving!! Yep, in 1 WEEK(June 1st) we will no longer be located in a little hard-to-find corner of an obscure shopping center, but rather in the most happening shopping center in Santa Rosa! On Mendocino Ave, at Steele Lane, is a shopping center with everything you could need, either in the center itself or very close by...Safeway, Starbucks, Baja Fresh (my fast food of choice), Jamba Juice, yummy restaurants, the list goes on and on, and that is our new home! It is right near the JC, the Administration Bldgs...and right across the highway from our beloved Trader Joes!!

You will love this new spot, and nothing will change as far as meeting times, leaders, and all the things you count on us for in the meetings.

There will be flyers at the center with all the details and...there is a drawing in the works for those of you coming in the first week to the new center: and there will be prizes for bringing friends to the new location as well. So don't miss out in those first couple of weeks!

I can't wait, and hope y'all feel the same.
We're movin' up!!

OTHER IMPORTANT MEETING ANNOUNCEMENTS!!

meeting picture

1) NO MEETINGS ON MEMORIAL DAY!!

2) The Palm Drive Hospital meeting in Sebastopol will be beginning a new series the first week of June. There is an Open House on June 1st, so anyone can come for free, and we will enroll or re-enroll people in that meeting. Want to join a meeting which has more losses than I have seen anywhere in years?
This group has collectively lost over 370 lbs since early February!!!!

3) The G&G Market meeting will be having a leader change next week. I have decided that someone else should take this meeting on, and hopefully build it up in number. I love all of you there, but it feels like a new and different energy will take the meeting in a direction I have not been able to take it. Please give the new leader a chance, as she is quite good. And this location is perhaps a great option for those of you not wanting to go to the new center location in northern Santa Rosa.

4) The Sonoma location has moved back to the main hall from the little rec room. Much bigger and airier, not quite as homey, but the size of the meeting Thursday evening made me glad we had moved back!

EAT THIS NOT THAT
I am continuing this column of healthier, low point alternatives to various types of foods we snack on, cook with, etc.

ICE CREAM!!
We're coming into ice cream season, and actually for me there is never a season when ice cream is inappropriate...Here are a few ideas...

This is by far my favorite all time product to recommend. The DARK CHOCOLATE FAT FREE SORBET not only has a stunning 6 points per the entire pint container (Ben and Jerry's has 20!!!), but it has about 8 ingredients total, no dairy, and tastes like the richest ice cream on the market. Incredible!!!

artic zero
Arctic Zero

Not hugely flavorful, but the entire pint is 3 pts, so if you are a volume ice cream eater this is a boon!
A highly unique product made from whey. It will remind you of fudgesicles in a way. Some Olivers have it, Pacific Market, and I heard Sonoma Market and Whole Foods in some areas.

 julies sorbet

Julie's Sorbet Bar

These were recommended by a member and in looking at the packaging the ingredients looked pretty healthy and she raved about the flavor. I believe they are 2 pts each. Whole Foods, Olivers.

There are lots of other low point ice creams on the market, like Skinny Cows, the Weight Watchers fudge bars, etc. Many members love these, and they are certainly a lower point option than their full-fat counterparts.

BEFORE AND AFTER...HOLY MOLEY!!

          linda sotto
Linda Koning used to be in my Monroe Hall meeting for quite awhile until schedules changed. She continued at another meeting and we ran into each other at Spring Lake. I barely recognized her! I asked her for some photos and the secret to her success. Here is what she has to say:

My heaviest weight was about 230lbs, so I've lost 85 lbs. My big secret to share with people is to forgive yourself. I think that is one of the hardest things about the weight loss journey. I remember the first time I was on program, I tried to be so perfect about it. The third time I joined Weight Watchers, I was successful at it because I didn't try to be perfect, if I had a piece of pizza and didn't track it, drank only five glasses of water, or skipped a day of exercise, I realized it wasn't the catalyst for me not being able to do the program. The first time I did it, if I screwed up at lunch or binged, I figured I was done for the day. Now, I tell myself dinner is another meal to do better, and if it turned out that I went over in my daily points for dinner because of lunch (because I refuse to skip a meal!), well, that happens sometimes, and I'm still on track most of the time.
