 woman drinking water 2
 Hi Everyone,

I loved the topic for this past week's meeting: Healthy Habits.  What is a habit? It is an act we do habitually, right? What are those things you are doing day in and day out which make this work?

There were of course the basic habits mentioned: drinking water, tracking, exercising, but there were other ideas that came out in the meeting room I think are valuable to share. So here we go...

  1. Eating Breakfast...seems simple, but it does get your system started and metabolising  food better throughout the day.
  2. Planning for all circumstances. Many members talked about always packing snacks or meals, and being prepared for whatever the food situation was where they were going.
  3. Putting exercise in their calendar so it never got dismissed as unimportant.
  4. Buying small portions of foods they love.
  5. And most importantly...Never beating themselves up if they've strayed a bit from where they wanted to be.
I know there are dozens more habits you all are building onto your repertoires all the time. Keep it up! It is the secret to making this work for a lifetime!

MEETING TOPICS:
WEEKS OF
May 2 & May 9, 2010

waitress
The week of May 2nd the topic is
Eating Out in Restaurants

We talk about dining out frequently in the meeting room, but there are such great ideas that are brought up for basic meals, ethnic dining, breakfasts, deli, etc., that it is always worth making an effort to attend.

Creating a Support System
is the topic for the week of
May 9th.

Do you keep the fact that you are a Weight Watcher secret from others? Are you afraid others will judge you if you do not succeed? Do you go along with friends when they suggest a challenging restaurant, or don't ask for help from your family? Where is the support you need to do this full out? Come find out how to build it.
RECIPES FOR THIS ISSUE
This recipe was published here last fall, and was on my website for awhile, but it is one of my favorites, so thought I would put it out again. If you've never tried it, not only is it delicious, but also vegan!

 A BEAUTIFUL VIDEO

Recently a friend reminded me of a video I had seen years ago, and how exceptional it was. I searched Youtube to see if I could find it, and voila! Oh I love the internet!!

EAT THIS NOT THAT
I am continuing this column of healthier, low point alternatives to various types of foods we snack on, cook with, etc.

CHOCOLATE:
As most of you know by now, I eat chocolate every day...or someone will die (my usual line...gotta come up with a new one someday...). My secret? I love dark chocolate, and always buy 4 points worth each day, so small quantities. Many times I get asked what chocolate do I buy, so here are some ideas:

ghiradelli choc
I think the easiest one to find is Ghiradelli. The small squares are 1 point each and there is a 3" square which is 2 points. At many markets.

newmans cupsI love the Newmans Own Peanut Butter or Peppermint cups. Each cup is a point and they come 3 to a package. I find them at Whole Foods, Olivers, Pacific and other markets.

Lake Champlain chocolatesHarder to find, but so worth the search, are the Lake Champlain chocolate squares. They are a point of delicious chocolate, and come in hazelnut, almond and several percentages of dark. To die for... I find them mostly at Olivers and Pacific, and they occasionally show up at Whole Foods.

Endangered Species half bars are another delicious endangered species chocoption. Technically these come out to 5pts each, so I buy them when I am planning to share my chocolate with a friend. Ths company also has some wonderful flavors, including tangerine and dark chocolate, and raspberry and dark chocolate. Whole Foods, Olivers and Pacific are sure bets.

Would You Like to Do a Little Volunteering?
bodega festival logo 2010

Many of you know I am the organizer of the Bodega Seafood Art & Wine Festival, which happens in late August. During the festival itself we have a slew of volunteers, but we are finding we could also use them before the festival...in fact right now!
This festival is a benefit for Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods, the non-profit organization which works with the California State Parks in the Russian River region, as well as the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department.

My hope is to find a group of you who might like to each take on one task during this time. There are things like getting posters up and postcards into the shops and restuarants in your area, calling the wineries and breweries to finalize their commitments, building and maintaining a database and assisting with pre-ticket sales. I know so many of you lead overwhelming lives, so please do not burden yourself more. But maybe some of you enjoy volunteering anyways, and this is a great cause!

Free admission to the festival, a fabulous festival
t-shirt, and access to our Hospitality Area are all included!

Email me if you want to come on board and be a part of this wonderful fun event!

Oh, and I just created a Facebook Page for the festival a few weeks ago! Please go to it and become a friend. Help us spread the word! Thanks!!
