michelangelo's davidHi Everyone!
This pic was shot last Monday at the Sonoma meeting by my friend Tom. It is funny to see how I look to all of you.

And speaking of "all" of you, there seem to be more than a few of you missing of late. You know who you are. You are saying things to yourself like "I can't afford it right now", or "I have to lose that weight I gained last week before I go back", or, worst of all, "I think I might as well wait until after the holidays to go back". Here's an alarming statistic, dear friends. The average American gains 7-10 lbs over the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays! Wouldn't it just be peachy to have to lose 10 more lbs? Yipes!

So my hope is that you will listen to the wise voice inside of you that tells you that you cannot afford to gain weight and you will find your way back to the welcoming arms of your leader and fellow members. We miss you.

     Meeting Topics:
Early November

The week of November 2nd the election is in the news and we are looking at the time when it is appropriate to vote for ourselves. When and how do we use the assertion tool?

And the week of November 9th we will explore what we need in inner resources to meet our goals.

And just an aside, dear members. If you have not already, I beg and plead to you that you take the time to VOTE on Tuesday! Make a difference to this country, and use your constitutional right!
RECIPE FOR THIS ISSUE
A member commented that she always looked at the recipes here, but never made them, because they looked long and complicated. So I decided an easy, short recipe was in order, but one that might satisfy those of you with a desire for fried foods. Not fried, but baked, this makes a delicious, guilt-free version of a classic British favorite.

fish and chips

Guilt-Free Fish and Chips

Ingredients:
spray oil
4 medium Yukon gold potatoes
3 Tbl Old Bay Seasoning
1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
4 (4 oz) cod fillets

Instructions:

1)Preheat oven to 425 degrees

2) Scrub potatoes and cut length-wise to form spears. Spray with spray oil and place in plastic zip lock bag with 1 Tbl of the Old Bay seasoning. Shake to coat and transfer to a large baking sheet. Lay in a single layer on sheet.
3) In another zip lock bag combine cornmeal and remainder of seasoning.
4) Spray cod fillets with spray oil and place in bag. Seal and shake to coat. Lay in single layer next to potatoes on baking sheet.
5) Bake at 425 until browned and fish is flaky: about 25 minutes.

This recipe makes 4 servings: 4 pts each. This is a Core recipe!

monroe halll announcement

My new meeting at Monroe Hall has gotten off to a quiet start and could use some members. This is a wonderful location in western Santa Rosa, on College, near G&G. It likely is a lot closer to many of you than the Farmers Lane center.
The meeting is
Monday afternoons:
 4pm meeting time (3:30 weigh-in).
I hope to see some of you there, espcially those who are coming from Sebastopol, or points west.

 PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION

 persimmons
 PERSIMMONS!

I only recently discovered the wonderful persimmon. A fruit that seems to look fabulous as a table decoration in the fall, is also darned yummy, if you eat them at the right time, and know your persimmons...
There are two kinds sold commonly, the Hachiya and the Fuju. The Hachiya is the larger, heart-shaped type, and it is only ripe when completely soft and mushy. Eaten upripe it will taste bitter.
The Fuju (pictured above) is ripe when it is firm, with a little give, and is closer to an apple in taste and texture, albeit, sweeter with a delicious flavor.
As we go along eating the same things day after day I hope some of you will step out of your box and try this excellent fruit!

SPICES AND HERBS!!

herbs

In our meeting this past week we discussed how to make foods appear and taste more exciting. Herbs and spices came up in almost every meeting, so I thought I would find a website which would give you the details on every herb, rather than try to list them all here. Hope this gives you some great ideas!
