my pic dec 07Welcome to Fall!

As I write this the weather is turning: cooler in the evenings, crisp in the mornings, and the leaves are turning gold and orange. We had a little rain yesterday, which made me want to shout to the sky, "no...not yet!! I am not ready!!". A part of me changes color as well when the season changes.

What I mean is that something shifts inside of me. I begin to feel like I should bundle up. Suddenly my boots are calling to me from my closet and my scarves give me a look of longing to be shown off to the world. And this "bundling up" sometimes carries over into my eating habits. I want bigger portions for some reason, and heavier foods. I feel like I go into "squirrel mode". I am storing fat in my thighs for winter.... yipes!

So if this is sounding like you, how about making sure you make it to meetings these next few months? Let's keep "squirrel mode" at bay and keep on the journey of healthy eating and constant exercise!

Meeting Topics:
Late September

Well, if they could have picked a topic which is right up my alley, this one sure is...The week of Sept 21st we are exploring the world of dancing as exercise!! I will be bringing in some very fun music, and hopefully some of you may be inclined to play around with the idea that dancing could be the secret to physical fitness for you!

And the week of the 28th we will be looking in our rearview mirror. The topic is "Looking Back and Learning": an exploration of what we are getting in this realm.

Hope to see you all in a meeting this week!

RECIPE FOR THIS ISSUE
I decided you might all enjoy a sweet recipe for a change. And since I am such a chocolate fanatic, I thought this recipe from the My Turnaround cookbook would be a good one. I have changed it to bring the points down. Let me know what you think!

Mary from Rohnert Park asks this question, which I know many of you ask as well:

"I am so frustrated. I am doing everything right. I am tracking everything, drinking my water, exercising almost every day, but the most I seem to lose is about a pound a week. What is wrong with this picture?"

Nothing is wrong, Mary. You are doing everything right, and getting exactly the results you should be getting. Weight Watchers is not a quick loss program. The idea is that you lose weight slowly, and all the while you are learning healthy habits, which ideally should last you a lifetime. We hope that by the time you get to goal and Lifetime you will have the system so ingrained that it will be impossible to put food into your mouth without at least wondering what the point value is.

What are some other changes which are happening for you? Are your clothes fitting better? Have you decreased in inches in measurements? Do you have more energy? Are your nails stronger, or hair shinier? And how do you feel about the fact that you are in control? Please honor all of these great assets of being on program and let go of the expectations of huge losses.

FIGS
FIGS!!
I know: figs are not a "product". There is a product made of figs recommended below. But I just want to emphasize that these delicious fruits are readily available in this area. Figs are grown widely in Sonoma and Napa counties, and are amazingly filling, and versatile. Try chopping them into a salad, using them for canning, making savory dishes with them, and of course, simply munching on them. The secret to the best, munchable figs? Wait until they are somewhere between fresh and dried. They are so sweet you will think you are eating candy! And speaking of candy, check this out...

                      FIGAMAJIG BARS
These delicious, chocolate covered fig bars are  wonderfully tasting and incredibly filling! They are 2 points for the regular ones , or the newly added mint ones (yep, Figamajig fans, there is a new flavor, and it is awesome!). There are also bars with almonds, and M&M-like fig morsels which are 3 pts per package. Whole Foods or other gourmet grocery stores carry them. And this is a company from Petaluma, by the way, and the owner's wife is a WW member at the Petaluma Center!
