braggs amino liqudWowee, zowee! The weather is spectacular! Are y'all getting out and hiking, biking and reveling in it? Spring has truly sprung! Every bulb I planted in winter (and wondered if they survived) is now in full glory. The gold finches are on my feeder in hoards. The apple trees are getting teeny green leaves. Soon there will be the blossoms in the orchards...I cannot wait.

This is a time of birth and change. It is a time of possibilities. If you have been in a stuck place with your weight loss journey during the winter this is the time when you can begin to take action to see results. What actions should you take? Here are some ideas...

1) Drink more water!! During the winter water drinking gets put on the back burner because we're cold. Rev it up. 8-12 glasses a day!

2) Eat different foods. Try some new and different fruits and veges, snacks, recipes. Take a chance and get out of your comfort zone. You may find some new friends...

3) Get more exercise! Let's get off our you-know-whats and get moving!!

4) Keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart....and know I am behind you supporting you all the way!
Meeting Topics / Mid March
  background
T
he week of March 23 we will be looking at the foods that call to us. Foods that we avoid (or should perhaps...) which we call "trigger" or "red light" foods. Which ones are they for you, and what should you do about them?

The week following we actually stay in the world of "triggers", but this time it is the feelings we will explore. What triggers us to say certain things, act in certain ways, and eat when we are not hungry.

A Recipe for Spring!

background
Ginger Swordfish with Orange Avocado Salsa
It has been a long time since I have made this. It is from my all-time favorite WW cookbook: Simply Delicious. I know swordfish is one of those endangered fish, but tuna can be subbed, or possibly halibut. Ask at the fish counter for a recommendation if you want to substitute. It is worth it. This is delicious! You'll notice I don't quite stick to the recipe. My version is in ( )

4 (5oz) swordfish steaks
2 T fresh lemon juice
1 T olive oil
2 teaspoons minced ginger (maybe 2 Tablespoons..)
1 garlic clove (I use 3...)
1/4 t salt
2 navel oranges sectioned
3 T orange juice
1/4 cup cilantro (I use more, or none at all, depending on            who I am cooking for: some people hate cilantro!)
3 T finely chopped red onion (1/2 cup)
1/4 t hot pepper sauce
1 avocado, peeled, pitted and chopped

Instructions

1. Combine fish with lemon juice, oil, ginger, garlic and salt in plastic zip lock bag and allow to marinate for 1 hour.

2. Spray the broiler rack with non-stick spray and preheat the broiler. Meanwhile, to prepare the salsa, combine the orange sections, orange juice, cilantro, onion and hot sauce and gently stir in avocado.

3. Transfer the fish from the marinade (discard marinade) to broiler rack and broil 5 inches from heat, until opaque in center, about 4 minutes on each side. Serve with salsa over brown rice or steamed potatoes.

6 pts per serving (not including rice or potatoes).
4 servings. This is a CORE recipe.
Product of the Week
President Fat Free Feta Chesse
feta cheeseThis brand of Fat Free feta is available at basic grocery stores, like Lucky and Safeway. Trader Joes has their own version.

I don't generally like fat free cheese at all, but this is so true to the real thing that I use it all the time in cooking and salads, and not once has anyone commented on it not tasing like feta. And it is Core!

Lunch with Janet & Linda
After the Thursday noon meeting in Santa Rosa

waitress
Next Thursday, April 3rd, will be our lunch outing for the month. After the noon Thursday meeting at Santa Rosa Center, anyone who would like to go is welcome to join us eating in a restaurant we choose as a group. The idea is to go out with your Weight Watcher leader and receptionist, and learn how to eat in a smart way in restaurants. It is educational and lots of fun. Put it on your calendar and come to the noon meeting on April 3rd!!

Other Information

backgroundMy workshop on smart food choices is this Sunday, March 30th.

Have you ever felt like there are so many products out there to choose from, and you always eat the same things? Cook the same meals? Go out to the same kinds of restaurants? How about getting a fresh perspective on all the choices! This workshop focuses on snack foods, foods we cook with, restaurant menus and salad bar/deli options. There is so much value in just finding great food choices. This information can keep you on track and excited about the journey for years to come. Don't miss out!

As many of you know I am not only a Weight Watcher leader, but also a Life Coach, and weight counselor. I offer workshops in Weight Management, as well as a support group and private work.

Please email me at jciel@sbcglobal.net if you have any interest in my other work.
