This morning I woke up an hour earlier...ah, daylight savings time. Actually I am an early riser, so it didn't make much of a difference...and what it signals is the onset of my favorite season...SPRING! Oh the joy of seeing the bluebirds doing their thing, and the wildflowers beginning to pop. I went for a hike at Lake Sonoma this weekend and saw scarlet frittilary (I know most of you haven't a clue what I am talking about, but for those wildflower enthusiasts amongst you, I know you get the thrill of it)!
So this means the weather is beginning to get better, the days are getting longer, and that translates to being outside more and getting more exercise!! Yes! Get the hiking shoes out of the closet and oil up the gears on the bicycle. Let's get moving people, and work off the fat we stored in our thighs for winter! Yippee! |

Meeting Topics / Mid March The week of March 9 we will be looking at the rocky, difficult path we choose to take sometimes, when there might be an alternate route we have chosen not to explore.... hmmm....sounds interesting, doesn't it?
The week following will be a really great meeting on the topic of journaling and how we can monitor not only our food, but our feelings, actions, etc. This is a must-attend meeting...really!

Recipe of the Issue
The Best Ever Turkey/Chicken Loaf When I am in a hurry and I want to make something which I can use for sandwiches or more dinners during the week, this is a quick, easy solution. I use both ground turkey and chicken, as the chicken makes it more flavorful and lighter. Sometimes I use just ground chicken. I never pay attention to measurements (because I do Core), so use your judgment and if it seems I overdo or underdo amounts adjust accordingly.
1 red onion, chopped finely 1/2 red pepper, chopped finely 3/4 lb ground turkey 3/4 lb gound chicken 1 egg 3/4 c oatmeal, raw 3/4 c barbeque sauce (I am partial to Trader Joe's brand)
Instructions Heat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients together, except about 1/4 cup of the barbeque sauce. Spray 2 loaf pans with spray oil and put mixture in pans. Spread remaining barbeque sauce over top and bake for about 1/2 hour or until no pink remains in center. Divide each loaf into 8 servings = 3 pts each. This is Core except for the barbeque sauce, so either sub it for teriyaki sauce (I like Soy Vay...see below) or count the barbeque sauce at 2 points per 1/4 cup.

Product of the Week Soy Vay Teriyaki Sauce
I have found this brand of teriyaki sauce to be quite delicious and it has the added yumminess of lots of sesame seeds. They make different versions, including an Island Teriyaki. All are wonderful. And incredibly enough, teriyaki sauce is Core!
This is available at almost every market, including Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Pacific, Olivers, etc.

Lunch with Janet & Linda After the Thursday noon meeting in Santa Rosa
A group of us went to lunch last Thursday at Baker's Square, which is generally a place I would avoid (I am not a big fan of chain restaurants), but we all had healthy, smart lunches. Our next lunch out will be the first Thursday in April. Put it on your calendar! The next one we will pick a more exotic locale!

I feel it gives us a message we need to have in our lives. Just copy and paste this link into an address bar, sit back and absorb the importance of this video.
