Hello Everyone!

Here it is...My newsletter in easy-to-read, click open format. Yippee! I am also sending a separate email announcing my workshops. Please let me know if you want to be removed from either mailing list.

I love hearing from any of you as to what you think of the newsletter, any ideas, recipes, products, etc. you would like to share. I have also asked for before and after pictures from any of you (you do NOT have to be at goal: if you are proud of your progress so far, let's celebrate it!).

Thanks for taking the time to read this! Happy 2008!
Meeting Topics for Early January

graphic of scaleThe first meeting of the year is all about re-grouping. We've been running around like crazy people for the last couple of months. Now it's time to re-focus and get back on the wagon. Get ideas and motivation to dive back in!

The second meeting of the month is all about geese...that's all I'm gonna tell ya! Better come to the meeting and find out what I could possibly be talking about!

Recipe of the Week

Black Bean Stew

fork graphicThis recipe was an accident. I found myself with a few things in the cupboard, and just made it up. It is delicious!

spray oil
1/2 red onion, chopped

1/2 red pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic
2 parsnips, peeled and chopped
1 beet, peeled and chopped
1 med. yukon gold potato, chopped
2 carrots, peeled and chopped
                                   1/2 head cauliflower, chopped
1 jar Trader Joes Pineapple Salsa
1 can black beans, do not drain
                                   I small can tomato paste
1 cup chicken or vegetable broth

Spray large cooking pot with oil and heat. Saute onions, garlic and peppers until soft. Add all the rest of the ingredients and cook until beets, carrots, potatoes are soft. Serve with corn tortillas (optional).

Makes 4 servings: 3 points per serving (add 1 pt per tortilla).

Product of the Week

Pinjur Sauce

pinjur sauce
This Trader Joe's product is very versatile. Made from roasted peppers, eggplant and garlic, it has a spicy, sweet flavor which is ideal for a sandwich spread, a dip for vegetables and crackers, or an excellent addition to soups or stews. It could be substituted for the salsa in the recipe above, for example. Delicious!

TJs has another product which is very similar; Roasted Red Pepper and Garlic Spread.
Lunch with Janet & Linda
After the Thursday noon meeting in Santa Rosa
janet ciel dec 07

Wouldn't it be fun and educational to eat a restaurant meal with your Weight Watcher leader? Well, here's your chance! The first Thursday of every month will be lunch with Janet & Linda day, Linda being my lovely receptionist, whom many of you know and love.

How does it work? Well you must come to the noon meeting at SR Center on Thursday, January 3rd, and after we close down the meeting (which is an hour after you leave, so you must do errands, or something in the interim), we will meet you at a restaurant we all decide on in the meeting! Once we are there I will help you make some healthy choices, and we will all learn together smart ways of eating out!

The idea behind this is 2-fold: to build the noon meeting, which could close due to poor attendance, and to learn smart restaurant eating. And it will be lots of fun! Don't miss it!!

Support Group Forming

roseWeight Watcher meetings offer tremendous support, but they do not allow the time or personal attention to get down deep and uncover the reasons why we know what to do, but do not do it when it comes to our weight-loss goals. This group is designed to explore the inner self. No points, no weigh-ins, just real connection.

Monday evenings beginning January 7th at my home/office in western Sebastopol. $20 per week: on-going, no drop-ins

Please email if interested.
Keep this in your hearts...

"There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living."

Sincerely,

Janet Ciel
