The Searchers
Post by: Del Merenda, President & CEO, i-MARK, Inc.

Until recently, I've got to believe that the only time that the term "The Searchers" was ever spoken in business meetings was if during a break, someone asked - 'what's your favorite John Wayne movie?'  Now of course, Searchers dominate marketing discussions and it's not about the Duke.

The Internet has turned the business world's marketing process upside-down. Instead of just spending marketing dollars to create company brand interest and awareness, we also spend to make sure searchers (prospective buyers) find us - and not necessarily by introducing them to our brand name, corporate image or value proposition. Rather, the goal of our new spending is to get prospective buyers to navigate to a website that for them is an anonymous company . . . ours!  Yes, all that money is spent to associate generic product and service terms to us. From the buyer's perspective they put their search bet down, they spin the wheel and it lands them on say, 55 Black. What a world - as the wicked witch said, what a world.

If we believe that it is now a buyer's market, we must adapt and focus on driving prospective new buyers to our websites by investing in search engine optimization (SEO) - the buzz-term that is all the rage. All other marketing initiatives pale by comparison - at least when it comes to achieving market share growth and new market penetration.  So, where does the branding and value proposition begin? At your website, of course.  The SEO investment got them to your website, now it must go to work and keep them there long enough to complete their mission. Our websites must work successfully to win new buyers over as repeat customers who frequently come back to be well-served and who buy more.
i-MARK Search Study Underway Showing Improved SEO Performance Attributed to Customer' Online eCatalogs.
i-MARK is now conducting extensive research into visitors and their search activities once they land on our customers' eBusiness-enabled websites. Be on the lookout for the full report in our next i-MARK Industrial Insights Newsletter. For now, we are excited to report dramatically improved SEO performance directly attributed to our online eCatalogs imbedded in our customers' websites researched to date. Sixty two percent (62%) of GoogleŽ's 'Page 1' rankings were directly attributed to i-MARK's SaaS eCatalog service, an incredible 164% increase in Page 1 Google placements for these customers! We look forward to bringing the full report to you next month.
Website Tips

Tracking eMail, Advertising and Social Media Using Google Analytics
If you're like most businesses, you don't have an easy answer when asked if your online marketing and media tactics are "working" or if your social media strategy is generating leads for you.  Or, what is the ROI of each of your tactics?  But, you can have the answer, and all we need to do is apply some little tools and Google Analytics.  I could write a book on the subject (and others have), but I'll try to be simple.

i-MARK signs-up Heli-Tek, yet another component manufacturer choosing 24/7 BUSINESS™ to set-up shop on the Internet.
Heli-Tek Logo

Heli-Tek, a division of Precision Screw Thread Corp., Muskego, WI, manufactures high efficiency linear motion products and specializes in quality custom thread rolling solutions and services. Their very aggressive sales goals led Heli-Tek to take their business to the next level by deciding to create a first-class interactive, Internet-based self-service center for use by their engineering-oriented customers and prospects. i-MARK's engineer-friendly software is well-designed to guide Heli-Tek's website visitors of varying product knowledge levels as they select, evaluate, and purchase Heli-Tek's complex-engineered products. Intuitive product selection guidance is augmented by 'how to select' wizards with imbedded formula calculators, making it simple and easy to find and buy the exact Heli-tek product needed.

In choosing i-MARK, Jordan Bush, Marketing Director at Heli-Tek said, "i-MARK speaks 'engineering' like no other vendor we've encountered. Yet the great thing about their solution is how user-friendly it is, even for the not-so-engineering oriented people who also go online to learn about linear motion and hopefully select our products. i-MARK's customizable product selection wizards guide users via a series of questions, user-friendly engineering calculators, and/or graphical selection guidance, to find the exact part they need. This was a big selling point for us. i-MARK made us feel comfortable that they could help us cater to our diverse audiences with their equally diverse product selection and eCommerce software."

i-MARK's 24/7 BUSINESS eBusiness framework deploys eBusiness centers of excellence exclusively for the complex component manufacturer. The Heli-Tek center is scheduled to go online in 8 to 10 weeks from project launch.

The Lee Company cements its reputation as an Internet services innovator by renewing its 9 year SaaS-based eBusiness service with i-MARK for the third time.

Lee LogoThe Lee Company, a leading supplier of miniature, precision fluid control products based in Westbrook, CT, renewed their SaaS Agreement with i-MARK for the third time and will continue offering their 24/7 BUSINESS™ services to global markets for another two years. In April 2001, The Lee Company established itself as the most engineer-friendly competitor in their industry by offering interactive product search, discovery, evaluation and selection using i-MARK's 24/7 BUSINESS eCatalog service, which has helped Lee grow its reputation as an engineered component innovator with a website that goes out of its way to better serve their markets by providing world-class web-self-service.

The Lee Company prides itself as a manufacturer of complex-engineered products for use in virtually failsafe transportation, medical and aerospace systems. Since 2001, i-MARK's engineer-friendly eCatalog has been confidently guiding The Lee Company's users - product design engineers and product specifiers - to discover, select, evaluate, and request their complex-engineered products, driving up the number of RFQs received and freeing up CSRs to serve prospective buyers needing one-on-one help with their more sophisticated product needs.

Witnessing a rapid climb in their online power supply sales, Astrodyne renews its SaaS-based eCatalog service with i-MARK.

Astrodyne_Logo SmallAstrodyne Corporation, based in Mansfield, MA is a global supplier of more than 4,000 different stock and custom-modified AC/DC power supplies. After Astrodyne installed i-MARK's 24/7 BUSINESS™ eCatalog services in 2007, they have seen their online sales triple, giving them good reason to renew their SaaS Agreement with i-MARK for two more years, establishing the Internet as their prime source of sales growth.

Astrodyne develops and builds a wide range of power supplies, both off- the-shelf and semi-custom that they sell to diverse markets and buyers ranging from medical to industrial and LED lighting. In early 2007, Astrodyne anticipated that buying would dramatically shift to the Internet and added i-MARK's 24/7 BUSINESS to capitalize on their primary competitive advantage, which is to give buyers an easy-and-quick, self-service way to discover and order both stock and semi-customized power supplies.

24/7 BUSINESS has become a mission-critical web-self-service tool for Astrodyne that intuitively guides buyers to find, buy or customize the exact-needed power supply, while also providing interactive, real-time customer service, woven-right-in to the buyer experience. Astrodyne continues to profitably grow by adding two new product families to their online eCatalog by way of their most recent acquisition of RO Associates, a provider of high-end ruggedized AC/DC power products.
