Community Connection April 2011 |
|
April is nearly over and one of my favorite holidays is already right around the corner--Mother's Day. This year we celebrate three generations of mothers in our family, and we know how fortunate we are that my granddaughter has her parents, grandparents and great-grandparents in her life. This holiday provides an opportunity to celebrate families throughout the country. UCM, too, celebrates families. We work to strengthen families and children in our community through our Bryant Early Learning (BEL) Center and Healthy Families Fairfax. BEL Center provides safe, affordable, developmental child care in a multi-cultural environment. Healthy Families Fairfax provides home visitations to expectant and new mothers, successfully preventing child abuse and neglect. Finally, this month, GreatNonprofits kicked off their Children and Families Campaign 2011 to find non-profits that are doing great work with children and families. You can read more about participating in this campaign at the end of this newsletter. Please fill out a short survey and help UCM gain greater visibility in the community!
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Cynthia N. Hull
Executive Director

Spring Gala: A Tremendous Success |
 | | Another successful Spring Gala was celebrated by all. |
On Saturday, April 2, 2011, the Friends of UCM hosted UCM's annual Spring Gala, "April in Paris." Over 200 UCM supporters came out to enjoy a wonderful evening filled with great food, great entertainment and great fun to benefit UCM's programs and services. Almost $95,000 was raised to help UCM keep helping our neighbors in need. Thank you Friends of UCM for once again treating us all to a night to remember!

Help UCM Make the List | GreatNonprofits and GuideStar have launched the Children & Families Campaign, in partnership with the Alliance for Children and Families, to identify top-rated nonprofits focusing on providing these essential services in our communities.
Any nonprofit that receives 10 or more new positive reviews during the month of April will be recognized on the Top-Rated Children & Families Nonprofits List. To help us make the list, simply write a review of UCM on our GreatNonprofits page: http://bit.ly/htGcDL. Your review will help raise visibility for UCM's work. Thank you for your support! |
