| Greetings!
UCM's 40th anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the place we began and the journey to today; to celebrate the present; and to look forward to the future. In each of those places in time, two things loom large: The need of so many of our neighbors and the amazing response of thousands of volunteers, donors and members of staff. That response, the ability to move quickly beyond hand-wringing and into constructive and effective action, is inspiring and provides hope not only to those in need, but also to those of us both providing the direct services and working to provide the funding and infrastructure needed for those to happen.

Courtney,* a participant in a program for victims of domestic violence, was referred to UCM for rental assistance. After conducting an intake interview and assessment, a UCM Basic Needs Counselor provided rental assistance and scheduled further appointments during which she worked with Courtney to develop short and long-term goals that would lead to Courtney's ability to live independently. Short term goals included finding employment, paying her bills in a timely manner and seeking assistance for significant stresses in her life that were interfering with her ability to find the stability in her life so necessary to living successfully.
