Greetings!

Summer is here.  For some that means a less hectic schedule.  For others there are more activities than usual with camps and vacations.  It is good to remember that a friend going through cancer treatments, grief, recovery from surgery or any other life-changing event may not view this summer quite like most summers.

Whatever summertime brings for you, please remember to be a good friend to those going through challenging times.

Here are a few tips for helping your friend this summer:

  • Invite your friend's children to go to the pool, the zoo, or a ballgame
  • Offer to do yard work, water plants, or weed the garden
  • Send a postcard to your friend from your vacation spot
  • Organize an ice cream party so your friend can visit with lots of friends (We have all the info you need to plan an easy, fun party!)
  • Invite your friend to do a fun summertime activity, like a picnic or day trip to a nearby town for brunch

Practical help is needed year-round.  Don't forget to offer these kinds of help:

  • Run errands
  • Offer children rides to their activities
  • Take out the trash

If your friend does not have a WhatFriendsDo team yet, we encourage you to set one up.  The site has a new Calendar that will make scheduling help for your friend easy.   Keeping friends informed through the Blog can cut down on numerous phone calls and emails.  The Guestbook can bring so much joy through encouraging words.  Pictures are always good to see, and if your friend is in need of financial help for unforeseen expenses, the Donations feature is a great help.  Set up a team today.  It's free and it's easy!

We may not be able to change that outcome, but we hope to change the journey.
