Greetings!

A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly (or seemingly suddenly) in a public place, perform an unusual act for a brief time, then disperse.  These are often done for entertainment, but the staff at WhatFriendsDo thinks this is such a fun and creative way to express love for someone going through a life-changing event.  And it need not cost a dime!

We have tips for who - what - why - when and how to do your own flash mob at the end of this newsletter.  But first, we want to share an amazing story with you.

Mob Made a Difference

A few years ago, a boy from our neighborhood was in a car wreck. It wasn't a deadly crash, but it was bad and the young man (who had been driving back to college) ended up in surgery and on a miraculous road to recovery.

His parents are good friends of ours and we had been out of town when the accident happened. When we came back, upon hearing the news, we were quick to pray for the boy, and for his parents.

But that's where I stopped. For some reason -- fear, or perhaps shyness -- I didn't call or send a note or offer to help. It's not that I didn't want to, but I was more concerned about getting in the way and inserting myself into an already stressful situation. Every time I thought about checking on them, I convinced myself it would be better not to.

After a week or two, I finally worked up the courage to bring some cookies and a note. I wish I had acted sooner. I could tell my small efforts meant a lot to our friends and I was sad to think our silence might have spoken unintentional volumes.   (continue reading)
