Greetings!
This year the winter weather seems to have been particularly difficult in many parts of the United States. A lot of people are probably very ready for March to go out like a lamb, as the weather leading into spring semed to be led by the lion.
A friend recently taked about caring for her elderly grandmother. It was only in hindsight that she realized what all they were doing and was so proud of all they were accomplishing. The changes had been incremental. She said it was like training for a sport, because nobody started out benchpressing - they eased into the situation.
The Lion
Crisis is the inverse of that. A huge weight gets tossed at you all at once and it is overwhelming; you think you can't possibly handle it. A crisis situation often generates a feeling of inadequacy. Everyone wants to make a meaningful difference but isn't sure just how to do it.
Creating a WhatFriendsDo.com Team is an easy first step. Even when nobody knows what to do, just gathering everyone, the friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, church family, together in one place begins to ease the burden. Then when there is something to be done, the team is in place and ready. Ideas abound for projects to do as a large group or as an individual. |
Roar of the Lion (and the tale)
Is it a great read about an endearing character facing adversity or is it your only too-real life? Or the news that was just received by someone dear to you?
Sometimes life eases you into a situation, like a lobster going into a pot of water at room temperature. As long as the water warms up slowly, you don't notice so much. You acclimate to the new situation a degree or two at a time. And then sometimes life just throws you in like a quick plunge into ice-cold rapids. You're in shock and then you're speeding along with the current. The shock is the first thing to get past but then there is the actual rescue of our favorite character to be dealt with. We want to be that super-hero for those we love but don't have the ability to fly, leap tall buildings with a single bound, faster than a speeding locomotive and all that good stuff. But then you do hear stories of people who, in a crisis, suddenly are able to lift a car or otherwise perform herculean efforts. We've all got some of that potential in us. We are still full of possibilities.
Sometimes it takes someone else to change perspective, to help show us what we can do to make a difference. Often it takes a coach to map out the strategies for the whole team, so everybody makes the plays together for the best possible results. If your challenging situation is a lion, a lamb or a loon, a louse or a lobster, there are things friends can do to improve the situation. WhatFriendsDo.com is there to help figure out creative and fun ways to be there for your friend. To help tame that lion into a lamb or at least something you can manage one bite at a time. WhatFriendsDo.com is even there to make some of the experience a "lark"! |
