Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless.

Greetings!
April is National Poetry Month. One might think that poetry would be the last thing to find on the list of ways to help a friend in need. But words provide comfort. They release emotions. They are how we communicate, and putting words into poetry can be a lasting gift for a friend. Poetry can also be a wonderful way to let friends know they made a difference on the journey. |
What Friends Do
Cancer, a terrible word You hope you never hear it I heard it, will never forget the night I heard it What friends do...they heard it too Everyone cries, everyone is scared
What friends do, they pray, they put you on prayer lists They come fill up your time, take your mind off of it for a few seconds They get you a cleaning lady, bring you on a trip, chip in on a wig They send you books, movies, care packages, endless cards of support
What friends do, they take you shopping, get you a massage, buy you lunch They send you flowers and wonderful meals They set up a web site to help coordinate meals, your kids' schedules Those that live out of town, tell you they wish they were here, to help in any way possible
Some reach out to you, even though you haven't heard from them in years and bring a smile to your face
What friends do, they raise a lot of money to help fight a horrible disease They walk with you, support you
They take you to chemo, sit by your side, say more prayers Tell you that you look beautiful even though you have no hair, lashes or brows
They help you move to a new home with new hope, new beginnings
What friends do, they show you how to be a friend
Thank you to my friends, my family, my rock. I could not have gotten here without you
I hope I can be as good of a friend to each of you as you have been to me
That's what friends do
