 IECA Remembers C. Earl Israelsen C. Earl Israelsen passed away peacefully on March 14, 2010, surrounded by family members. He was a former president of IECA. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in civil engineering and received a Ph.D. in hydrology from the University of Arizona. IECA Announces Winners of 19th Annual Awards of Environmental Excellence Mark Hunter and Grant Witheridge
both were honored with the
Gustavo Salerno, CPESC | Sustained Contributor Award at EC10 in
Dallas, TX this past February as part of the Awards of Environmental
Excellence presentation ceremony. Gustavo Salernowas recognized with the Industry Professional of the Year Award, and North
Carolina Department of Transportation's Roadside Environmental Unit was
recognized with the Organization of the Year Award. Brent Hallock was recognized with the Presenter of the Year Award for his course Principles and Practices for Using Vegetation to Prevent Erosionat EC09 in Reno. Read Media Release >>.

Pennington Seed received the Top Gun award as the total sales leader and was also honored for agronomic excellence with the Ground Assault award. ACF West received the President's Club award for sustained excellence in the industry. Bobby Thomas with Reel Neet Erosion Control, was named the GreenArmor™Gladiator for his outstanding Turf Reinforcement Mat promotion. ReelNeet also received a company award for Most Outstanding Project on the MEP Pipeline. JMD Company was recognized for most rapid growth with the aptly-named In The Fast Lane award. Six individuals were honored with the Sharp Shooter award, including Michael Ramy with Ramy Turf; Bruce Berlin with S&S Seeds; Wes Martin with Pennington Seed; Pat Gowan with ACF West; Don Thieman with ASP Enterprises; and Carey Wittwith GeoSolutions, Inc. "These individuals proficiently represent our products in the field and offer extensive knowledge and contributions to the industry," said Marc S. Theisen, vice president of erosion control solutions for Profile Products. "We are fortunate to partner with talented people in every region of the country."

 Call for EC11 Presentations IECA is calling for submittals for Environmental Connection 2011 (EC11), its annual conference and expo in Orlando, FL, February
Due May 20 | 20-23. Training is the cornerstone of Environmental Connection. This year, EC11's focus is "Environmental Heroes" and IECA is calling all champions of the environment to participate in the world's largest soil and water event by submitting an abstract. Suggested topics range from post-construction stormwater BMP's to Low-Impact Development (LID), but any erosion and sediment control related topics are welcome. Newly established EPA regulations require a monitoring program to sample and analyze turbidity of storm water from construction sites. Based on specific construction site conditions, this "How To" webinar presents information to enable a permittee to select and set up several acceptable techniques.
 IECA Completes Training Modules for Walmart IECA has recently completed work for the world's largest retailer, Walmart, on an online version of its stormwater training program. The project was an 8-month endeavor resulting in the creation of 7 training modules, with more than 6 hours of online content.  Malaysia Chapter Wins Shell Grant IECA's Malaysia Chapter has been awarded a grant from Shell Malaysia. The award, which is one of seven offered recently to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), comes as part of the corporation's Shell Sustainable Development Grants program. In total, 300,000 RM (USD $90,000) was distributed among the seven project recipients. The Malaysia Chapter was recognized for its capacity-building project on mangrove planting on Carey Island.  MAC Seeking Partnerships with VA SWCD's The Mid-Atlantic Chapter (MAC) of IECA is offering to partner with Virginia Soil & Water Conservation Districts to conduct conservation workshops. MAC partnered with the Northern VA SWCD in 2000 for a workshop held at George Mason University and with the Prince William SWCD in 2001 at a workshop held at the Officers Club at Quantico Marine Base. The workshops are usually one day, held in a classroom setting, or classroom and field demonstration, low cost for attendees ($25-$50) and typically do not require an attendee to incur any hotel costs.
